How do you feel about petite women with long hair. I have always been told that I shouldn`t wear my hair too long (past my shoulders) becasue it will just make me look shorter. Any thougths? I have been growing it out for a year and it is almost at the base of my neck ( growing out a pixie cut). Should I keep the layers so I don`t look like abig bunch of hair?

Thanks

I think long hair can work on a woman of any height. My wife is 5 foot 2 1/2 (she insists on that 1/2 inch being in there) and has auburn hair to her thigh. Looks fantastic. Crystal Gayle is 5 foot 4 and her hair is nearly to the floor.

Personally, I am not a big fan of layers. I know in some cases (extremely fine hair) it may be appropriate but generally not it long hair. You may want to read the book "Secrets For Beautriful Hair" by George Michael (he is Crystal`s hairdresser and THE long hair guru). It has lots of tips on growing your hair.

Be patient and kind to your hair as it grows. Good luck! ;)

I am short but I think I look really good with my past tailbone hair. I`f people don`t like my hair because I`m short they can just shove it up their ass.

Plus I think I`m much prettier with my length I get looked at everywhere I go. So not every short girl looks bad with really long hair. I`m a example.

From a guy`s perspective, I`ve never seen a longhaired woman -- of any height -- that I didn`t like.

I`d love to see photos of you and your hair, Amy.

Hey Susannah -

I`m 35, 5` 2 1/2", 110 lbs, and I have waist length hair. I have been this size since the age of 14. I don`t think the length of my hair is gonna make me look any shorter than what I am. Plus, I am not too worried about what people think of my size, it is what I am made of inside that counts.

My hubby is 6` 2", and I don`t think anything else can make me look any shorter than that. :)

Be strong and patient and let it grow out. Maybe let the layers grow out a little longer and see how you like it, then make a decission then. Good Luck!

Keep Smilin`
Dorothy :)

Hi Dorthy.

I bet you look nice with your pretty waist length hair. Like I said before short people can have long hair too and pull it off just as well as the taller people.

Just think of it this way, you won`t have to wait as long for it to become waist legnth as a tall person does.

Being petite and having long hair is pinnacle of feminity. I`m sure it is short haired women telling you that b.s., because men love long hair and that makes long haired women, sad but true, "competition". You grow girl.

This was in the "From The Past:" at the top of the board and I just wanted to bump it up to add my thoughts.

This so called rule goes along with the age rules and the gender rules.

As I said before on another thread, if society told you you had to walk around with boards tied to your arms so they wouldn't bend because that looks good would you do that?

Until we trace these rules back to their creators then we should ignore them. Who are They to tell anyone how they should wear their hair?

If hair was not meant to be long on older women or shorter women or on men it would not grow long. If it can grow then who can tell you that you can't have it?

Stop listening to those rules.

Too true! I think healthy, happy and certain ways of attitude and the way you carry yourself are the biggest beauty aids one can have.

I'm 4'11 and 100 lbs. I love my long hair, but do make efforts to make sure that my hair doesn't take over my features. I still want my face to be seen :)

CrazyGirl, your webpage is locked, FYI...

I'm of the belief that shorter women can wear their hair as they choose, just as their taller sisters can. Look at the bright side: Most men couldn't care less about a woman's height, and goals take less time to reach. Don't cheat yourself; if you desire it, grow it.
My wife is 5'3"+, and has waist length hair. It looks spectacular, period! Crazy Girl above proves it, if one needs a photo. Bob

long hair is gorgeous! short, tall, fat, thin, long hair just does it for most people. I'm 5'7, which is short to some but not to most, but either way I'm not that tall and have hair down to my arse. My sister in law, who is a total hottie btw, is 4'8'' with hair down to her knees and it looks great on her! Power to short cuties and tall! Coz ya know we all rock anyways!

I agree. I'm 5'4" and my hair has been waist-length or longer for years. I love it and get lots of compliments on it. I've also heard some people say that only "young" women should wear their hair long. My mother is 61 (and 5'3", 110lbs.) and still has long hair. I think long, healthy hair is beautiful on people of any height, weight or age.

People always assume that my long hair is difficult to take care of. I tell them it's much easier than short hair. I had an experience similar to your wife's. I had short hair for a while and it was soooo time-consuming. I woke up every morning with bed-head and had to shampoo, blow it dry, and style it using styling products and a curling iron. A few hours later, it would be a mess again. I also had to pay a stylist to trim it every 4 weeks to keep the style. My long hair is so easy to take care of. It never looks messy. I don't need any styling products or tools to take care of it. Plus, a little trim once a year is all I need a salon for now.
