Hmmm...is it real? If you look at the stylists Instagram page, you'll see a pic of kaley in a white top with it tied back loosely in a knot with chin length pieces falling in the front. You can clearly see her back and new Roman numeral tattoo in that pic. The tattoo is only a week old. Also, the pic where it says refreshed, the top is a sweater it seems with either white lines or patterns sewn in. The bob pic it appears to be a different shirt. Also, on wireimage.com at the kids choice awards tonight, it's pulled into an updo. Without a doubt, this is a fabulous look on her! I think the photo captioned "Spring Refresh" is the real "after" shot. I call shenanigans on the shorter one, which is too bad because it would be great. The first picture shows straight unstyled hair about to be cut, then the second photo shows curled, styled hair. I doubt they would carefully style her hair only to then cut it further. Conclusion: just a trim with some layers.

Kaley - and Shailene Woodley - are both in the process of reproving my theory on women who have always had long hair and then go short: Once they cut it - and by "cut it", I mean to at least bob level or shorter - they will continue to keep going even shorter for a while. However, when the inevitably start growing it back out, they will grow it out as long or longer than they ever had it before.
See Tia Carrere, Nia Peeples, Alyssa Milano, Liv Tyler, Dana Delany, Keri Russell, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Brooklyn Decker, Rachel Weisz, Jennifer Connelly, Robin Tunney, and Sheryl Crow, amongst others. And yes, I'm including some that went short for movie roles.
A couple that I expect are on the "growing" path now: Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence. And I'm expecting Julianne Hough to eventually turn that corner as well... 0 - Aa badu`d ,%.4b` 4,b !4% !,$ $-- %! ,` /

I think this newer, shorter version is much better than the initial bob, which looked shapeless and lifeless (and colorless). This is more interesting, daring, and sassy.
Yet my jury's still out on this version too, as I've yet to see it really styled well. The front layers seem designed to keep it looking frustratingly unruly all the time despite the very short overall length.
I'd suggest if she's gone this far, she should cut and layer the front and sides to match the back and into a real, true, no-shortcuts short cut.
And please, please, go blonde or go brown or go something, not this stringy in-between…

Many of those women you list cut their hair because it was damaged, Alyssa Milano and Jennifer Lawrence, or for a role, Robin Tunney, Keri Russell, and Liv Tyler. If you don't cut it because you want it short, then you're unlikely to keep it short. Anne Hathaway seems to be the exception, since she's kept a pixie for nearly two years. At the Met Gala a month ago none of her touched her ears.
On the other hand, women who go short by choice, Ginnifer Goodwin and Michelle Williams, often keep it short for years. Emma Watson stated she preferred her short short cut but grew it out because she felt she needed length for roles. Julianne Hough and Dianna Agron went short by choice, grew theirs longer or had extensions put in, and then went shorter again.

Peter Pan cut sounds about right, though sides might be a tad long for that description. Regardless it is a major change from 6 weeks ago. I suspect this is as short as she will go.

I think the cut looks kind of cute on her. I wonder if the Big Bang producers will make her wear a hairpiece on the show in the fall, though. They make gorgeous Megan Boone wear a goofy wig for The Blacklist. I'm really hoping they let her wear her own hair when that one comes back in the fall.

On the bright side, I'm thrilled she completely ditched that long, lifeless, stringy, dishwater-colored, center-parted, bang-less blandness of recent years (see early seasons of The Big Bang Theory when her hair was blonde, banged, and really cute -- at some point around the middle of the series she gave up). It had been really, really dragging her down.

Really surprised that there seems to be a large majority here liking it. Personally I find it quite awful. I know I am a minority with that opinion, but I think she's not really pretty enough to pull off short hair. Apart of that hardly any pics of her shorter styles looked flattering. But that's just me.

I normally don't respond to every post like some people do but I have to respond to this one.
I have been doing hair for 20+ years now and can see a trend coming. This is a trend. I have already have 4-5 clients request this exact cut because they have the same type texture. I think it looks great on her and it looks great on others too.
And as far as color, I hear you all saying all of the time that someone needs to do something about color. Most of the time, it is the lighting. If you look at other pictures, she doesn't have as bad of roots. Don't take the worst picture that has the lighting showing that she might have bad roots and blast her over it.
I applaud her for being different and doing something different. I applaud her for taking this style and showing how you can make it look different every day. I wish others would change it up like her and try new things!!! !$( Ba Fadtp` $, bp ).$ B ).%$

I'd say cut, because that is her stylist that does her hair in the pic. The photo on people.com caught her leaving the salon and it is a good pic as well. If I watched the show, I'd hope that they would make her wear a wig. This cut is atrocious! Now, the nape looks decent, but the sloppy mop left on top makes the entire "style" look ridiculous. Not as silly as the woman with beautiful long blonde hair spoiled by a massive side shave on "Talent" last night, but bad enough.
