I would definitely not have expected that (especially since it's a rather critical point that Fantine is blonde (it says her dowry would be gold and pearls, with the gold being her hair and the pearls being her perfect teeth). These can't possibly be the best shots she's capable of with it, so I'll hold back a solid judgement, but I do get the sense that while it may not look bad, it won't be her best look. <i>The Devil Wears Prada</i> length and bangs are a hard combo to beat. But kudos for her being brave enough to give this a go...

i think it is going to look great once better pictures surface...
very disappointing that she didn't do it before filming the dark knight seeing as catwoman traditionally has a pixie...
as a fan of the character this makes me sad

Anne wore a pixie wig for "One Day" and got a positive reaction she got from the crew and friends who weighed in. So she was going to cut her hair short for real, but Chris Nolan wanted it long for Catwoman.

I think it's best to reserve judgment. Sometimes the first pictures don't reflect how the haircut looks usually. I remember when Alyssa Milano cut her hair, the first pictures were in People and didn't look that good. Later, her pixie looked great. %20 - %20 - %20 -

While Fantine is blond, she does sell her hair in the play. It isn't supposed to look good after she does that. Still, I'd guess they'd dye her hair blond if she was going to cut it.

Even the Today Show for Sunday talked about Anne's super short haircut which they said is not a wig but truly a short short haircut. Supposedly she is being hounded by the media to get photos of it. The Today Show did not have a good shot either.

She had the opportunity to play Fantine in "Les Miserable." That's a killer part that many many actresses would kill to play. It's coming out December 14, so people likely think there are Oscar possibilities.
Natalie Portman shaved her head in a movie that wasn't a legendary part in a classic book/play and wasn't going to get her an Oscar. The list of actresses who cut their hair for a killer role (e.g. Sienna Miller, Rooney Mara) is long. If Anne didn't do it, I'm sure there were a dozen other big name actresses who would've been in the salon chair in 15 minutes.

I believe she wanted to cut it for the role. I don't think a wig would have diminished the artistic vision of the film, but sometimes, actors want to take on as much of the physical manifestations of the person they are portraying as possible, that, plus the interview where she said she wanted to cut her hair off leads me to believe she wanted to, and this role was as good an excuse as any...

This Letterman has become one rude and surly man. Anne KNOWS that a lot of men don't like short hair on women. A question about Anne's feelings about it is fair game, I think. But that comment is beyond the pale. One can't allow one's feelings about a disappointing haircut to metastasize into a personal insult.
I do predict that Anne might get what I call a "reinforcement" haircut. It will stick it to the critics, and prove to her in her mind that the cut was a good choice in the first place.

Letterman compared her, favorably, to Audrey Hepburn, which led Anne Hathaway to say she was blushing at the kind words. Dave has gotten kind of surly in the past decade, but he can still be funny, he can, of course, be a bit of an ass too. In this interview, he seemed to be being nice to her. I could be wrong, but that was the impression I got watching it.

Is Anne actually growing her hair or keeping it short? I ask because it is some 6/7 months since her chop and I would think that even with the odd trim her hair would be longer than in these photos. I know that even in the grow out stage there have to be trims from time to time, here it looks freshly cut so perhaps she likes the pixie cut look after all the initial tears. I have to say in these pictures and at this length she looks stunning. Stunning with long hair as well but many celebs seem to be happy at the moment with really cropped hair.

This looks like a "stick it to the critics" attempt. I think that she has learned how to style it well enough, but "well enough" is not particularly attractive on her, IMO.

She's said repeatedly she's wanted to do this for a while.
When she was on Letterman two months ago she said she'd cut it that day. While she didn't like it at first, she was loving it because it took no time to get ready in the morning. She said that she could get a later call on a movie and "go in with the boys."
What's moreis that Anne is getting married some time in the next year on a date that likely won't be made public. Most women want longer hair for their wedding. She'll be a pixie girl.

I don't quite love this style -- a little too boyish on her for me. But I like that she's trying short styles and shaping it, versus growing it out as quickly as possible. I wonder how she'd do with a Halle Berry-type gelled, spiky 'do.

I'm sure anyone with short hair, man or woman, has been in a position where the back of our head is a little funky between haircuts. It's no big deal, except you'd think that before a major premiere Anne would have a hairstylist doing her hair. And they'll always offer to clean up the back a little.

I am so impressed and surprised with how she's embracing super-short hair. It wasn't just a phase she endured for the film and moved past quickly; it seems to be bringing out a more daring, experimental side in her. While her bangs are a bit long, the sides and back look quite short. I don't see a mullet.
