BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- On the back of almost every hair product is a label warning how flammable they may be. But that warning became a real life example for a Bakersfield girl.

On Monday, Anija Harris, 9, was in her room at her South Owens Street home when she tried to unplug some Christmas lights. But instead of just the plug coming out of the socket Anija's brother said he saw an arc of electricity come out as well.

Anija's hair caught fire, and her brother jumped into action.

"He tried to put his sister's hair out, (himself) with his hands while they was screaming for (their) mom," explained Gladys Wright, Anija's Great Aunt.

Despite her brother's fast acting Anija suffered second- and third-degree burns to her scalp, face, and hands.  The family wants to know how it happened.
