My dog gets very frightened during the Fourth Of July festivities because of the loud firecrackers.  I had heard that lavender essential oil might work but not to apply it to the dog directly.  I also heard about ylang ylang.

Has anyone else had these problems?  Any tips or recommendations?

Hi there - I have a similar problem with my German Shepard as well as my cat - Neither one likes loud noises especially lightening.

My vet recommended Bach's herbal essences - they have a whole pet line and all you do is add it to their water. I had great results with both of mine.

Here is a link to the Bach's page that also has a chart on which to use for which symptom:

I used Mimulus - as it addresses the lightening/loud noises issue.

Hope this helps, let me know how it goes!
