You can do daily co-washing, use a growth aid like MN, keep your hair moisturized, do protective styles, do daily scalp massages. There's a lot you can do to help your hair grow. HTH! $- P cn`dp0% 00BB .(4`p /.!-! !%(!) , ,,br /4

try protective styling- cornrows or braids or twists. Also take your vitamins, drink lots of water, exercise and get plenty of sleep at nite. Mixture for growth/thickness- 1oz rosemary oil to 4-6 oz of castor oil- use this 2 to 3 times a week and massage it in. Baggy your ends at nite. Use natural products. Indian herbs (shikakai, aritha, tulsi, neem, amla), make a great herbal wash- you simply take 1 tbls of the powder or 1 tblsp of each powder and strain it in the coffeepot , add 1 cup of water for each tblsp that you use. You can also add a few squirts of castile soap. Make sure this is cool or cold when you use it, not hot. Deep condition your hair weekly for 30-45 mins with heat. Some folks like me need an hour- ideally. You can add honey, liquid aloe vera and a lil oil to your deep conditioner.

That's all i have.

Well I wash it twice a week with Jojoba Shampoo and then condition it with tea tree conditioner. Then I let it naturally dry, oil it and I keep it cornrowed until my next wash. I don't really have a 'set' oil that I use, as I have to keep changing because my hair seems to drink so much!! I still can't find the right one! and at nights I tie my hair with a wrap, but it always comes off! LOL

I wanted to grow my hair out so I could get a wave nouveau (you may have seen my earlier post) in time for my 18th, but I get the feeling that a whole lot of growth won't develop in 6 months! Cry

Hair takes time to grow and unfortunately, it's not always at the pace that we want.  If you continue taking good care of your hair, you will see progress.  Make sure you have gotten rid of any split ends and keep your hair from being dry.  In time, you will retain more and more length helping you to achieve your goals.  Have patience and good luck. ) Ah @adp`a , `p !, Bp ,2 - ! -!! , ,"R ),

You can get 3 inches in 6 months if you take care of your hair. Do you deep condition and/or use a leave-in? $- P cn`dp0% 00BB .(4`p /.!-! !%(!) , ,,br /4

I use to use a leave in conditioner and it seemed to help, it was just too greasy! I've only had deep conditions when I've been to the hairdresser, but I continually get told on here to use them at home too - so I will! Smile

Any suggestions on which one to use? Bearing in mind I live in the UK, and we don't always have what's in the US. And what's better deep conditioning / a leave in conditioner / or both?

Thanks Big%20smile

Well, I used to use a leave in conditioner and it was quite good - bit pricey though, but I'm going to go back to it - anything to help really.

I got a private message about HairTopia, it's a pill that's meant to help your hair and nails grow. Does anyone have any feedback? There is some on the website, but I'd like to know if anyone here has used it, and is there any side effects?

Thanks

PS: Thank you to everyone who's given me advice on here, it's really helped cause in the UK there isn't much support for afro type hair.

Thank you xxx

Keracare Humecto is a great conditioner and as for a leave-in you can use whatever works for you. I use Kids Organics but I don't know if its available in the U.K... Confused $- P cn`dp0% 00BB .(4`p /.!-! !%(!) , ,,br /4

I know that it's a lot of work maintaining strength with relaxed hair.

That is why I struggle with ever doing it again.  But I'm glad that you have length..it's very nice.

I've heard of Keracare but I've never used it, and the Organics range is available in the UK - I used to use it, but stopped for some reason.

I use the Tresemme range when it comes to washing my hair, and Dark and Lovely as a leave in (it's great - makes your hair so soft!)

The Tresemme deep conditioning is excellent (well for my hair) and I saw quite a bit of growth in little time. I think the growth may have something to do with products I used but maybe more to do with the fact that I began to shampoo and conditon my hair everyday, which is a bit of a handful with my hair - but I think my hair was so greatful for the everyday pampering!!

I've stopped washing it everyday and gone down to twice a week as I find I don't have much time in the week - and I see little growth at all now. (So maybe the extra shamp and cond was helping, and maybe I've found the right leave in! Big%20smile)

I was told though, that if I kept my hair in cornrow while I wash it, it saves time and you can reach your scalp easier. I find that it actually helps !!

So I'm well on my way to getting sorted with my hair, the only thing with the above method is when you wash cornrow it makes it kinda messy on top, so I have to neaten it more often!! LOL

Hair!! It's so fustrating! but if it's for healthier, longer hair... Wink

Btw, do you use Keracare on your hair? If so which of the products do you use?

My stylist used the Humecto once and it worked amazingly. It's a bit pricey but I've found that Smart Style, The salon in Wal-Mart, sells it for $6.50 to $8.50. I might buy it. $- P cn`dp0% 00BB .(4`p /.!-! !%(!) , ,,br /4

I used the Hairtopia Twinklesxx when i first started on this board. however, it is not about growing hair.. Hair grows and it can grow fast. But we need to retain length to see the progress. So you can take all the pills in the world if you can't retain the length you are popping pills in vain.

i don't take hair pills i do what these ladies have suggested. leave ins/deep conditioning/protective styling like braids for low manipulation/experimenting on what products work, etc.

Try MN concotion like OP suggested.

i suggest taking some time to check out some other post on the website for what some people have done with their hair to ensure they reach their goals.

After a couple hours - or the next day I'll cornrow it again. And I too wash them in the direction they go in Smile

Here are some questions for you all :

I was told to use wave nouveau products on my hair. Does anyone else do this, who has natural or relaxed hair?

Does using MN work? and what are the benefits of it?

What's the difference between deep conditioning and a hot oil treatment? If any difference, is one better for hair?

Coconut oil's been mentioned a few times on here ... does anyone recommend it?

Thanks for the help/replies, and if I'm not back on here for a while then everyone make sure they have a

I've used Wave Nouveau Moisturizing Lotion on my hair before and it's pretty good.

I've been using an MN mixture and so far, it's working for me. It's used to accelerate hair growth.

Coconut oil is amazing. You can use it for scalp massages OR as a sealing oil.

I don't think that our hair grows slower that those of other races ....hair usually grows 1/4 inch per month.....but our hair tends to break off just as fast as it grows. this gives the appearance of the hair not growing but it really is......the main goal is to deep condition the hair "ends" so that they won't break leading to retained length. Deep conditioning and protective styles will help you protect your ends.

Godsflowerrr,

Hey!
Would you mind sharing what you use to keep yur ends conditioned and protected?
Would any conditioner do?
Thanks

I've already seen a vast amount of growth in the past few weeks. Here's what I changed:

I began using the Organics Olive Oil spray, daily on my scalp - massaging it for about 5 minutes

Began to use a Wave Nouveau moisturiser, then I'd cornrow my hair until my next wash was due...

I've stop using shampoo because I found it very drying for my hair

I now just use Tresemme Conditioner and Tresemme Deep Reconstructing Conditoner (you leave it on for around 5 minutes, then wash - it's really good i totally recommend. You see an instant difference and hair is left so soft and managable, which is a first for me! lol.)

My hair's grown quite a bit now, not really lenghty but it was really short at the back, but now it's improved faster than I thought it would. And it's got longer at the front also.

So i decided that whilst I'm transitioning I should get a 'rihanna' style bob. But i'd have to use heat to straighten, which will damage my hair. So is it worth it? And as my roots are natural now, if i straighten my hair the roots will look 'puffy', is they're anyway to make it flatter or more straight?

I don't no whether i should just get a wig that's shaped like rhiannas cause I really love the style. Maybe that's better for my hair, as they'll be no need for heat?? But sometimes its nice to have your own....

what do you guys think? Please help!

Hair Goddess,
To keep my ends conditioned i use a combination of natural oils and hair butters such as avocado butters, carrot oils, olive oil, shea and jojoba oil....just to name a few. I saturate my hair with natural products and wear protective styles when i really want to give my hair a break.  I make my own products which incorporates alot of natural oils and butters and i use it. would just saturate your hair with a lot a lot of natural oils and wear protective styles.

Biotin vitamins were suggested to me by a licensened(poor speller) beautician.  They can be purchased in the vitamin aisle of the grocery store or pharmacy.  Ask the pharmacists about possible drug interactions.  I am nervous about my BIG CHOP set for the end of March.

That's true. I was thinking about investing in a lace wig. I've seen a rihanna one that I just love! The only thing is the one that the website have done as a 'copy' looks nothing like rihannas picture! So i'm going to have to get it custom made! Confused

A quick hair update, with use of the olive oil and wave nouveau products my hair is growing out quite nicely! I really do think it was the lack of moisture that was slowing my growth and making me think it wasn't growing at all! LOL

You have very impressive hair growth.  How long have you been using MTG?
Also the ORS replenishing pak, is this a form of protein?

We've been under the misconception that our hair either 'doesnt grow' or grows very slowly....but the truth is, it does grow, and healthy hair grows at the averge .05 inches per month, or more in some cases. The key is to keep that hair on our heads, with proper maintenance, key of which is moisture.

First of all.. A watched pot never boils.  Stop concentrating on growth and concentrate on style.  If you get too anxious, get a weave or do the cornrows for a while.

Here's a thought:

Ever wonder why it is that all of the other hair on our body (and I do mean all other hairWink) grows normally and doesn't fall out? In fact, it doesn't seem affected by water at all.

I mean isn't that the biggest misconception about 'our' hair? That if it touches water or gets washed every day it will be damaged and fall out???? It got me thinking, what if we all washed our hair everyday just like every other race that has long, flowing hair? What if that was the reason our hair appears to grow slower and shorter than everyone else?

Just think about it. We use the most products out of anybody else and that causes build up on our scalp. If we washed everyday like every other woman in every other race, maybe our scalps wouldn't be clogged with products and that would eliminate the damage and breaking. I mean, our hair is kind of like a plant and plants need water right?idea

What if yall, what if this was the answer to a long history of hair myths and practices that just make us spend all kinds of money on products and eventually have to side with a wig, weave, or braids cuz our hair is so damaged from being toyed with. All it needs is WATER!!!! Wow, how liberating would that be?mickey
