So i am thinking about cutting my hair short.. I am really digging this new short hairstyle craze, and i really really really like some of the new styles.
My hair currently.. LLLOOONNNGGG! When it is down, it hits the middle of my back. I am really nervous, however, to cut it so short. And at the same time, my hair is.. THICK!! I am really afraid it will be too poofy to have short.
Does anyone have this problem right now!?! And could anyone like lighten my fears of cutting it so short!?!

Have you looked through any of the hairstyle magazines at stores? Not the Cosmo types but the ones that actually say something about hair in the titles. Like Hairdo Ideas or Short Hair or Sophisticates Hairstyle Guide. These are usually in the larger stores like Walmart that have a seperate magazine rack not by the registers. Since you want to go short these would be great for finding many options.
I think you could wear the second choice above except that you have more hair than her so it might not look exactly the same. If your hair is naturally straight or straightish like your pictures show then it might help if you look for those pictures first.
Do you have experience with making curls like the first picture has? Do you have a plan for what you will use to make them?
You say the appoitment is soon. Do you have to go right away or can you hold off? I know there are many who would like to help you but answers don't always come in one or two days on forums.
There are many people on this site who are good at finding pictures. If you give them some time they'll find you something.

I would also think the second one would work well for you. You could do a basic bob, but that would probably make you look older than you are. The cut you show is more edgy and up to date. While you have healthy looking hair, I don't think the current style does much for you. That is my opinion.

In my opinion I think the style you are wearing now doesn't do too much for you. I think the second one would be best for you because it looks like you have pretty straight hair. The first one would take a LONG time to do if your hair doesn't have any curl or wave to it. But you look like the type of girl who could pull off any hairstyle you like. So I would say go for it if you want to do it, I think it would look very nice.

Your hair looks so healthy and pretty now,but I have to agree the current style isnt doing anything for you.The style with jessica alba is a basic bob.Her hair was thin from bleaching,so the cut made it look thicker.Which would not be good for you.
I do however think a longish bob would look great on you.Like a shattered effect.Like this one on Jenny. The ends are broken up a bit but she still looks polished, plus it would grow out alot better than that second pic.I have had those haircuts before and I can tell ya they grow out really funky.Good luck

Oh my Gosh!!! Please don't cut your hair that short. You have gorgeous hair right now. All you need is some long layers. You will regret going that short, trust me. I did. I can't wait to have may hair long and healthy again. Remember this: A woman looks much sexier with long hair. Your hair is perfect right now. Crazytrainer,
Also consider this: If your hair feels too thick right now, layers will make it feel less thick, so that may be all you need. They will also add body to your hair if it ever goes flat. How long did it take you to grow it that long? !) Aidhap @A 8bp /2 BR

You guys have been a great help. I am looking to change it up, and i have been told many many times that long hair just doesn't do my face any good. I had it cut short at one point 4 years ago, and i kind of hated the way my stylist cut it. It just wasn't me. I am now ready to break that feeling and try to go short again.
I do like the 2nd cut i posted.. ALOT!! And as far as the first one goes, my hair does have some wave to it. It just isn't showing in the picture at all, but i do also straighten my hair pretty often. So that might have something to do with it. But since that incident 4 years ago, i have never cut it pretty much at all since then. I have always just got it trimmed. But like i said, i am ready for a change.
My boyfriend has said many of times that he would love to see my hair short. He has always seen it long.. and i really really would like to see his expression as it is short.
I really appreciate everyones help, and i feel like it has been much easier for me to make a decision.
I pushed my appointment back a couple weeks so i could get so more help. I hope that everyone will still help me because i want to go in there with a set mind on what i want.. with no hesitations.
But i must say.. i love my hair long, but its just too long right now.
So would everyone say 2nd picture with layers!?!
or am i completely missing the mark!?! @ @@0E@A

Since you have so much hair, I think that you should take advantage of that. Most girls would die to have thick hair like yours. The second picture looks unkempt to me; it looks like a pixie that hasn't been touched for over a year. A layered bob would work; you would lose some bulk but it would still look full. Work with what God gave you girl.

I understand her feeling about here hair, I was that way four years ago pretty thick wavy/curly hair to my waist, I liked it but wanted a change, I was very scaird about how it would look, I was nervous the day of cut, I had it cut to my shoulder with layers. Was shocking at frist but loved it and haven't been long since, have gone shorter. Doing a bob now. It is her choice, she's seeking advice which I did on here before I cut mine. Lisa

OK, take this comment with a grain of salt, ct07, since I'm a guy who is *extremely* partial to long hair. I think you'd look your best with a *slight* fringe (light bangs or front layers), but your length needs only a tiny trim to look fantastic.
A good percentage of women *do* regret major cuts, so be honest with yourself. How much do *you* enjoy having long hair, and is long hair an integral part of femininity to you, if you care about such? Well, you did ask for frank opinions, and I wish you the best, whatever you decide. Blessings, Bob

If you are going to go for a shorter cut, instead of wasting the hair and just throwing it away, think about giving it to Locks of Love which is an organization that makes wigs for kids who have cancer or illnesses in which they can't grow hair. They require 10 inches and their website is www.locksoflove.org. Check it out if you want to!

There are lots of ways to do a layered style like Karen has. Jennifer Aniston had a similar style but not the same. It all depends on where the stylist puts the layers and how many they make. You also need to be clear with the stylist as to whether or not they are to layer the whole head or just the front. I think you can wear a style like that with just the front layered. I'm not a stylist and I don't judge face shapes but I think that you can wear a layered framing style. The nice thing with that kind of style is you can wear styles like that at a variety of lengths. So you could try a longer version first with layers starting at your shoulders and going down and then try a shorter version starting at chin or lip.
Have you found any of those hair magazines?

i have bought some magazines, and i am in the process of singling some of the pictures of women and their cuts out. this is really really hard for me because i am getting mixed emotions from everyone. People are telling me to keep it long and add layers. Others are telling me to cut some hair off to shoulder length and add layers. and the the rest, which is the greatest percentage of them all are telling me to just cut it all.
Right now, i am an athlete, and my hair is weighing me down.. ALOT!! It needs to go. Yes i did end up regretting my first short cut because i hated it, but i am willing to take the risk again because i am so sick of keep it long. It gives me headaches and i go through 2 bottles of shampoo a month. lol.
I know i would love to have some layers to i guess, reduce the thickness of my hair, and i know i want some cut off, haven't decided how much, but i know a pretty good majroity of my hair will be gone in a couple weeks. Now i am not saying i hate my hair now, but what i am saying is that i am just getting tired of it. I want a change. And when i say change.. I mean a change. I like changes. And like Heath said, i don't want to end up not cutting it and regretting it.
I am ready for a change.. @ @@0E@A

Heath, just yesterday a woman told me how much she regretted her chop from super long hair (before I knew her) to her chin. All I know is what many women have told me personally, and what I've read. No one knows percentages. I am simply hopeful that if CT07 cuts hers, she will be as certain as is humanly possible beforehand that it will be a good decision for *her*. Best, Bob

I personally believe you when you say you don't mind going to something short. I was hoping that people would show you some more pictures. There are a lot of people here who seem to find lots of pictures. Maybe some of them are busy getting ready for the holidays or something. I'm glad you're finding some options in the magazines.
When searching for a new style it is important to not only find what you do want but also find what you do not want. If you see a picture with a good cut but you don't like the bangs you can still use that picture. Just try to find one with bangs you do like or without bangs. Or tell the stylist you don't want them. That's just an example. I'm not saying you should or should not have bangs. Get a notebook or something so that you write out your thoughts. Then you can take that with you along with your pictures so that you won't have to remember what you meant to say.
Do you want something that can be pony tailed still or shorter and you'll just use clips, pins, or barettes?
Do you want something that uses products like gel or spray or mousse?
What is the shortest you want to go? The pictures shown so far seem to be around neck and chin length. Should we look for shorter ones?

If you were to take your current style and just cut it to a shorter length I think it would look good. When I look at your picture I see something similar to the way my Mom looked when she was young. She had her hair just below shoulders with the ends a bit springy curled. The wavy curl like they had back then. You said that your hair lays flat so perhaps you could get it cut shorter in a similar style to what you have now but with some slight layering to encourage curl. You said your hair isn't naturally straight so it might not take as much layering as someone with straighter hair.
Perhaps you could book a consultation with a stylist so you could go in and just talk about how to get what you want before anyone actually does it. They might have some ideas. Consultations should be free. Some salons do charge for them but there should be some that don't if you live in a place with lots of salons. The only thing I suggest with that as far as payment is if it is free you can offer a tip for their time. But that's up to you.
I think something in the range you mentioned might be a good change. It's not short but it's a change. And it's a good place to be for changing your mind. You can go longer or shorter from there. If you want it long enough for a ponytail be sure to tell that to the stylist. Sometimes stylists will point to a certain spot and say "We'll keep it this length" and then they will only leave a little bit of hair actually reaching that spot.
Here's an idea. Put your hair in a ponytail and then feel the tail below the band to see how long it has to be to be in a tail.
I'm not saying to stop looking at the other styles. I hope it doesn't seem like I'm pressuring you in one direction or another.
