I have some in now....long story of why I have them in....but none the less I had to do something quick.....I've only washed once....so I can't really comment to much on these.....give me a couple of weeks on my curling iron and flat iron and I'll have a better review for ya.
I can tell you they don't hold curl very well unless you spray the heck out of them....but they did razor very well.

i have had them in for 3 days now... and i loved them at first. they held really well and weren't too expensive for human hair... but

after the first wash they became dull, lifeless, and brittle.

im thinking that theyre initally coated in silicon and thats why they are so "satin"y. but yeah theyre kind of ugly now and i'll take them out tomorrow.

then again, i didnt follow the directions and wash in cold water... i washed them in hot water in the shower. maybe that has something to do with the coating coming off?

same here with my SS...however it tends to match my texture of hair.... but.......I'm getting a bit of tangeling and matting.....which I HATE! Maybe we should og on to SAlly's web site and give them some feedback...They might try and inprove the hair if people told them how it holds up. !, S(,`p "$%%0`r < b . , -,% %,$ `b $

Well let me update you about my Sallys hair purchase.....I've had this hair in 2 weeks and while it has dried out a little....it matches my texure of hair, so that part is ok....however....this frigin'Censored knotting and matting up no matter what I do.....is driving me nutsWacko....yes I was desperate enough to install this hair...but damn...1 or 2 washes and it tangles like crazy?!
I just ordered my elite thermofiber....thank god Amm got more in....I'm sure hoping that it isn't too soft and silky.....hope I can razor it and create more texture to the hair. Anybody textured this hair? Does it dry out some after washing a couple of times?  Amm I'm sure you can tell me more about this hair. I mean I don't want it to dry out and get frizzy...but just wondering if it gets more texture when the silicone wears off... or does  it not react the same way as most human hair after washing several times?
Thanks for the feedback chic!

I actually work for Sally Beauty Supply and know alot about the hair extensions. Satin strands DO need to be washed in cold to luke-warm water and washed with a very mild shampoo or a wig shampoo. If you have them braided or glued in, the best way to take care of them is braid them at night when you sleep. That will reduce the chances of snarls. If you're only clipping them in, then try your best to lay them flat and/or braid them.

I bought some and LOVE them! I highly reccomend them to all customers. The Euronext ones are night too, my sister bought some of those. Try it! Where else are you going to find good quality hair for 80 dollars?

I have the Sallys Satin Strands installed and I would say that I am getting the same results as I did with the Jet set. It is dry all though it matches my real hair but dose require a lot of products to keep tame.

I know the package said to wash the hair in cold water...but please....I can't see myself doing this....which may be one of the reasons it hasn't held up past a couple of weeks. This hair would be fine for clip-ins I guess...but not for us protac wearers or any other permenant means of wear.
Kathyann I would have to agree with you on it being just like jet set hair....course I think my jet set went a tad longer before it started tangeling so bad....I mean this hair is CRAZY....3 weeks and all I have to show for it is....crappy tangely, dry hair.....UGGGGG! So if you gals want to buy this hair.....follow the directions and wash in COLD water and let dry.
Waiting for my thermofiber from Amm to arrive so I can get this out of my head.

ok so update on *my* sally beauty satin strands story ((fun times))

ok so i had it in for 3 weeks (minus one day where i briefly took them out because my glue was giving way, but i used the same hair)

soooooo i noticed it dried and lost the coating after the first wash (probably due to the washing of hot water) but if i used product in it (a lot because the hair became porous and i needed to use more) it was fine. well everything was going greatly! i even dyed to to match my exact color and it was good! some breakage but whatever. soooooooo this is where it gets fun

i never thought it would be that important to make sure the hair was untangled before getting into the shower... so neglecting that, i showered and washed my hair....

biggest mistake. it ended up in a rat's nest the size of a baseball and after 2 hours of fighting with it trying to untangle it, I ended up taking it out with monoi oil at 2 in the morning.

really sad because now I have to go get more :( :( :(

is it just me or does your hair seem like it shrinks after you take extensions out?! haha!

PS- does anyon eknow if this hair is cutically aligned? i doubt it is (probably why it tangles sooooo horribly) but that'd be great if it was.fitch112006-10-04 20:32:15

I was about to try the satin strands but if you can only wash in cold, its not worth it..I have been using Sassy for 2 years and I wash, curl straighten and treat like real hair,,,and for the price of $27.00..you can't beat it...If you wear them all the time, use Sassy..just like your own hair..

When my hairdresser installed them almost two weeks ago she said I couldn't curl them with anything hot, so I have to use the pink foam curlers and I just dampen the ends with a little water use the curlers and in a few hours I have curls until I wash them, I don't even need hairspray and my shedding is VERY minimal, they're the wefts and they were sewn in.

Well I use extensions and I use satin strands from sallys. U dont want to use a flat iron or curl your hair unless its with rollers. I use a shampoo called Pureology and I shower in cool water. haha even though i hate cold water. But after I get out, I use leave in conditioner with Pureology. It has silicone in it. IT WILL KEEP IT SOFT! use lots of leave in conditioner if other off brands. Sleep in a braid. :) They have extension brushes with loops so you wont damage your hair or pull it out. HOPE I HELPED YALL!  Its not the hair. Its good hair, its just yall need to learn to take care of your hair and thats hard work if you dont have extension shampoo or extension products. :)

I have had Satin Strands since Sept and they're doing pretty well for being cheap.  My weft has grown down some, how far is it suppose to grow down before you have to redo them?  I have also noticed my real hair has got thinner? or is it just an illusion?  Do you have to take any time without the extensions esp. if my real hair has got thinner I don't want to! thanks! I've had my Satin Strands in for about 3 weeks and it has quickly become a NIGHTMARE.  Mine are sewn in, I paid quite a bit to have it done, and this was the hair recommended by my hairdresser.

After only a few washings (I only washed it twice within one week), it became dry, lifeless, and knotted continuously.  On week 4, I'm ready to just take it out.  I was told it would last up to 4 months but this is absolutely horrible.

I've tried all the recommended conditioners by Sally's, have been very gentle, cold water only, gentle combing out with a loop brush, and I just can't get it under control.

I don't blow dry, it's not been exposed to any chemicals other than prescribed hair products for extensions, no swimming, gentle washing, I just can't believe it!

It's quite obvious that they put some sort of coating on the hair ... and I wish I could just put it back on.  I have plenty of this hair left and when compared to the hair on my head (from the same package), it's not similar at all.

HELP ... what have others used/done to get their hair back in shape?

I was told I could do virtually anything I do to my own hair with this hair but I guess that's not the case at all.

Nothing you can do with that hair....it's dead.....nothing will re-vive it or help it....it's just really bad hair. It may be good for some people and for clip-ins...but most ppl have had terrible luck with it. It seems like such a bargain but it's not...ok if you are in apinch and plan on using it only for a couple of weeks if attached permanently and you wash and dry.

I know it sucks after only wearing 4 weeks.

Yes, sure seems to be dead.  I spent about $60 a few days ago on hair products for it ... <sigh>  I take it that this "natural hair" doesn't absorb protein or conditioners like "real" hair.

So tell me this .... I want to have extensions ... what IS a great, long-lasting brand of hair that will give me a good 4 months or so?  I can't spend $400 on hair ...

So now that I see how sensitive natural hair is, I AM wondering how synthetic hair compares in regards to look, endurance, etc.  Does it actually blend well and look natural?

Can you give me the pros and cons of each type?

It's really all a matter of what you want to spend, if your hair is curly, wavy, or straight, and what color it is.

Synthetic hair CAN be good and inexpensive, but it can also tangle.

Human will be expensive, you'll find better colors to match (esp. with browns IMHO) and it can tangle if you get crap hair.

It really depends on install method too! If you like sew in's I'd go with some Bohyme in Hand tied wefts, check out hairextensions101.com
they have great service!

SO many things to consider before buying hair....
Texture of your hair
straiaght-wavy-curly
thick-thin-dry-oily
color-hair cut currently with no extensions
desired efect you are wanting

After you can answers most or all of these questions you are ready to start shopping...lol..hey I learned the hard way and through MUCH trial and error....I found a few brands that I really like, but my hair is dry, curly and red....now with a Japense straightner on it......but never the less, I have a course dry hair.....I  love my bodywave, Bohyme hair!
I ususall wear the same 8 oz of hair...which is 2 packs of their hair.....I get 2-3 months wear....and once you build your arsenal of hair up and have leftover hair...well you use that for when the ends do get dry and you need to trim but don't want to lose your length...you just add the extra left over hair and add back to your length.

It really all depends on what your hair looks like to beging with....if you post pictures, Im sure we might be able to better help you.

I love my human hair.....a good brand of course....and trust me...hair from Sally's is NOT going to last...and for the price you might as well get good hair that will last longer.

Synthetics...once again is up to the individual....I can't wear if becasuse I have to curl or flat iron my own hair to tame it and get the frizzy out...hince using  heat on syn. isn't good for me cause I burn the piss out of it...yes you can use heat on it but you have to wet the hair and turn your temps down...and blah blah blah...don't have that kinda time...but if you have straight hair and it's in good condition and wear it straight for the most part....some syns. are really good.

I still vote for my bohyme human bodywave....straight bohyme I can't curl worth a hoot...however Sherrie wears it and gets a lovely curl that holds...once again I don't have the patience to clip curls everyday or whatever.....here's where Sherrie can shed some light on SS hair....French refined is pretty hair but I found that it tangeled alot and Ididn't want to deal with that all day....so I love the fact that I can twist and turn and bun my hair at night and let it down the next day and...wola....a nice wave to the hair without having to curl it all...now it I want big barrell curls...big curling iron and..poof....great curls that hold.

Just my opinion on all the above.....everyone has their favorite brand and texture of hair....just figure out your texture and all and then base your choice on what brand to buy.... just remember..alll hair is not created equally...or company's...beware of who you buy from...personally I buy from Sherrie's site for my supplies...use to buy hair from her when she had it...hoping she'll start again..anyway, she provides me all my tapes and glues and removers.
Hair I buy from Ebonyline and you get free shipping of orders over X amount.

Hope this helps!

I have to agree with the dryness of the satin strands... granited this thread is a few months old i recently started using satin strands malibu and st. tropez. I loved them at first but the ends seem to dry out fast. I have a little over 200 pieces in and i dont have any problem with tangling or anything but I feel that i am replacing them every month and a half due to dryness... i use a leave in conditioner as well let the conditioner sit on my hair for about 5 min in the shower (biolage) i do blowdry and straighten but only the top of my hair twords the scalp i dont use the straightner on the ends of the hair...
I am wondering if the others who used satin strands I tips and had problems with tangling/ dryness used the same colors as me or darker colors? I am ready to try a new brand thats for sure!

I bought 3 packages of the satin strands at $80 each then had someone put them in for me at $500 and they have been in for one week.  I am disgusted with them!  After one week they are pulling out!  I am using a very gentle shampoo, taking good care of them, I put chi oil on my hair every day and avoid the tips.  I had great legnths once and they didnt come out for 6 months!  This was a HUGE waste of money!  Makes me sick!  I got them because I lost most of my hair from a medication I was on.  I guess I have learned my lesson, I would have been better off just spending the $1500 on great legnths then trying to save money and ending up wasting $800 plus tip!

3 Packs is ALOT of hair!  I was angry when I wasted my money on ONE pack of that hair. DO NOT BUY HAIR FROM SALLY'S ... I only washed mine in cold water as recommended, braided it at night, then when it started drying out and tangling up, I used all the expensive recommended products.

When it's dead, it's dead.  You can cut it shorter to see if the upper part is good.  Use some of the spray on hair oil at night to soften it and braid it, then rinse it out in the morning with some light conditioner (shampoo only the top of your head).

You can work with it for a while to make it LOOK decent but the tangling will not go away.  Then it will start to look embarrassingly bad.

Same thing happened to every one I know that has used this hair.

Unfortunately I had a whole OTHER problem to deal with besides the lousy hair ... I had them woven in for alot less that but unfortunately, I made them work for about 4 months.  And when I took them out, I lost half of my own hair so am now strapped to glue in extensions for probably a year until I get some hair back on my head.

If they are sewn in with those little beads, I recommend getting them removed because your own hair will become dreads and you'll regret it.

I now buy BOHEME (I think that's how it's spelled) and it's wonderful hair.  1 pack for $100 and it's lovely hair.  I've had it in about 3 months now.

In all honesty, talk to african american women and find out where they buy their hair.   I've gotten good advice because they seems to know where all the little places are that sell good hair.  Try to find Boheme ... perhaps you can sell the unused, unopen hair on ebay.

Sally's wont' take it back ... I even sent it all back to them with a letter (corporate) and no response at all. They take no responsibility for their products.

I feel for ya ... get good Boheme hair, and have it put in gently in your hair so you can at least salvage the health of your own.

I glue mine in now and although it doesnt last long, you can always touch it up at home easily.  Just be careful when removing the glue ... if you slide it down the shaft of your hair with your nails, it can damage your hair.  Get it wet with some conditioner, soak it and knead it, then pull it out carefully (it feels like rubber cement).

As far as all my hair loss goes, I was told that KELP will really help it grow back quickly and thicker.  Go to GNC, get some Kelp and they also have a hair program which is fairly reasonable and I"m using it right now too.  I'm reading good results about this.

Good luck!!!

wow your experiance was way worse than mine. That sucks. However do keep us updated on how the KELP is going for you. I am currently taking horse tale vitamins along with cod oil and biotene. To be honest I don't see much difference in the growth however I have noticed with the horse tale that any cut such as paper cut or anything relating to a wound heals so much faster and they say that horse tale is very good for that. Anyways my new growth of hair seems stronger and looks healthier but i havnet seen it grow dramadically so who knows...
Like I said keep us updated on how that goes with the KELP and thanks for the updateSmile

Wow, you are the first person I've ever heard that liked Sally's hair.
Our of curiousity, which brand of Sally's did you purchase....and how long did it actually last?

I find it all to be crap, even the most expensive hair they have doesn't last more than a few weeks before it starts drying out and frizzing.

I must be missing something here.

The hair I have in now is Bohyme (which can't be bought at Sally's) and I've been using it since around September.  It's STILL fantastic, even after every day washing and blow drying.

It's amazing really.

I have to agree with the Bohyme recommendation. Of all of the hair Ive used, Bohyme is the best.

After reading this thread, I will NOT get Satin Strands!

I'm thinking about getting Euronext clip on extensions from Sally's.

I installed the 18" I tips about 2 months ago and really like the hair.  I shower in warm water, use pureology and blow dry and flat iron.  I'm really rough on hair too.

I still use pureology shampoo but I have fallen in love with Pantene Smooth conditioner and even though I know Pantene is a crappy brand this stuff makes anything silk!  Maybe that is the reason? Or it could be that I have the darkest brown?

I've been wearing bohyme for years and I find this comparable.  Maybe I just got a good batch and I probably won't buy it again because I usually go for much longer hair but otherwise I consider it a success.

Longhairaddict,

Was it Sally's Satin Strands premium remi I Tips for $19.99 that you used?  I'd love to use a strand by strand method, because I just want a few highlights.  Can you give me some tips?

I used Pantene Smooth conditioner for over 5 years.  You're right.  It makes any hair like silk.  I had to stop using it because I had Brazilian Keratin Treatment, and you can't use anything with sodium chloride.  Luckily, I love the shampoo & conditioner that comes with BKT.

Keep using Pantene smooth.  It's so inexpensive that you can saturate your hair with it.  I've tried hundreds of conditioners.  Pantene smooth is the best.

Yes, it was the Sally's Satin Strands I used.  I thought they were more but maybe I just bought alot of them.  Keep in mind I bought the very dark brown and I think others have been talking about the lighter colors so if you are going with highlights you might not have as good of results.

What is a Brazilian Keratin Treatment?

BKT is the newest way to straighten & smooth hair.  It makes frizzy hair feel like silk for months.  It's much better than Japanese straightening which makes hair too straight, lifeless and resistant to curl. My hair is coarse, gray, frizzy and thick naturally.  After BKT my hair is shiny, smooth, bouncy with a slight wave, and I can curl my hair with a round brush.  It's miraculous.  It cost $225 for a 2 hour treatment in which they coat the hair with Keratin and flat iron. It's been 2 months, and my hair is still great.   My hair is so healthy that no hair falls out in the shower.  Amazing.  My stylist in Vegas travels the U.S. doing BKT.

Longhairaddict, Would you please describe the method you use to install the Satin Strands?  Do you use glue, cold fusion, micro beads?  Can you do it yourself?  How much does it cost?

Thanks, LV

LivLuv

I just wanted to input that I have done my own install with satin strands using the micro bead method and it is very easy.
If all your doing is some highlights I would do probably 1-3 in a row then space your natural hair depending on how wide you want the highlights to look. Here are some videos that will show you rather than tell you so you have a better idea. Keep in mind a lot of these are more for a full head install but it's all the same when it comes down to the micro install.
As for me if all you want is some highlights I would go with the micro bead because if you decide to take them out or rearrange or dont like them or whatever it is a lot easier for you especially for the first time. =)

that video is a good one but you will not find the loop tool at sally's you will have to use the hook tool which is just as easy.
hope it helped and good luck.

Hey S Girl!  Thanks so much for the video and info.  This looks perfect for highlights and easy, too.

I just have one question maybe you can answer.  Sallys micro fusion links come in small and large.  What size should I buy?

Sally's Satin Strands remi I-tips in Barcelona is the perfect shade.  Only $20.00 for 20 strands.  Even if it doesn't work out, I'm only out $20.00.

Thanks, LV

ALWAYS GET THE LARGE ONES the ONLY reason they even sell the small beads is for those who pre tip there own hair. meaning not already tiped. Yeah they use to sell the satin strands I tip hair in 100 packs for like $80 now they have discontinued those and gone with 20 packs. The ONE thing I hate most about that hair is after a few weeks it dries out and the ends get yuky so i would suggest to leave the ends a little longer so you can trim them periodically or as needed. I hope all works out and have fun. oh post some pic when you are done we always love to see the outcome Wink SiNfuL GirL2009-03-06 02:47:14!,$ @i`hade"a - < b . bp #* ) (-,% )! ! 4b` %2

Many thanks.

I wonder if the Brazilian Keratin treatment would bring the strands back to life.  Next time I do BKT I'll have the strands in, and I'll let you know the outcome.

For the record I want everyone to know IF you do use satin strands malibu or topez and you use a purple shampoo and or conditioner DO NOT let it get on the extensions. It will take forever to get the blue tone out I had to take all the extensions out because they went like a gray white after I got the blue out, but I didn't put the purple shampoo in on purpose it was an accident of not paying atteniton I swear lol. $3.50 for 100 micro links

Wish they didn't charge for shipping though.

Hope u looked up a removal process for your extensions....also I just posted a new product that Sallys Beauty Supply is carrying for weaves and your natural hair....I've been using it for about 4 days and I luv it....but dont get it on your hair if you have "healthy" hair because it will make  ur hair greasy Im sure....I however can't get enough oils in my hair so its perfect for me....just try it on your extensions.....has kept mine from tangling....look up my post...I think it says NEW Product for extensions/dry hair....

I have eextensions.com in right now and they seem to be working well so far.  They say they are indo-european.  Do not use the loop fusion because they have a design flaw with a hollow tip which allows the shampoo and sebum to enter the tip and causes them to pull out in one week.  I retipped them and reinstalled them and they are rocking so far!  Next time I will buy the itips and silicone lined links.  As far as Sallys and Tease brand hair I am truly out a ton of money and totally dissapointed in them!  They damaged my own hair (which had fallen out due to a medication I was on, and the reason that was why I started with  extensions in the first place) pulling more out.    I have wasted thousands on both those brands and only came up with bad extensions and ugly dry yucky looking hair.  I will keep everyone posted on the er extensions, but so far I love the quality of the hair!  They are not that expensive but they come from Canada so they have to go through customs.  I think I paid around $20 for 10 peices to a package.  I bought 10 packages and all are in for the second time around and I have only lost 3 in 3 weeks so far.  Good luck everyone!Thumbs%20Up

Update on sallys hair extensions LMAO...
So i used the same set of hair for about 8 months then finally decided its time to get new hair. Well I already had 200 strands of malibu satin strands so i was like whatever i'll just use it its never been used. At the same time i decided i want black too so i put 60 strands on the bottom and the other 200 for the rest of the head. Only the black seem to be sliding out for what reason i dont know. its okay though i wanted some on the top for some treaks lol. well the ones on the bottom (and only the black) keep slipping like really bad. i dont understand and dont know what do to. plus the balck ones seem to knot up more than any of my blond. im lost any input or should i just go bohym already?
