I am 36 Years old and have been slowly shedding for the past 8 years. It would always stop or decrease during/after pregnancy. After the birth of my third child who is now 18 mths the hair shedding is back with a vengence. I just noticed in the past 2 months that I have bald spots on both sides of my temples, the crown is becoming VERY thin and overall density of my hair is thin. To add to my pain, I have suddenly developed over 30% gray in the front area only! Professional hair color only last me about a week. I have curly hair so I can conceal the roots pretty good, but after that it is embarrasing. I have counted over 150 full and short shedded hairs with the bulb at the end and stopped washing my hair everyday which helps some. I have noticed that the temples and sides of my hair grow only very short. I have started taking a multivitamin, hair vitamins from walmart that have 3000 mg Biotin and also ordered my Nioxin products. Most importantly a hair specialist that is recommended on this site is also in my plan so I have an appt with her Jan '06. Previous thyroid and hc test by MD and Gyno came back normal. I also have developed a nail infection in the past month. I am hoping all this is related and can be treated. I used to suffer from iron defficiency in my early 20's. Hopefully all of this can be cured by the Dermatologist. Anyone out there have a clue???

Shedding after pregnancy is normal.  Since you have been to the doc and had all the normal things checked, the best thing I can say is take good care of yourself and wait out the hormonal changes your body goes through after pregnancy.  Make sure to eat a balanced diet and drink lots of water.  A multivitamin a day, and exercise will help also.  Check the hair vitamin to make sure it doesn't have too much vitamin A in it.  Too much A can cause hair loss (it shouldn't have too much, but if you are taking it with the multi, you may get a little too much).  The FDA recommends 5000 IU of A, and most multivitamins already contain that much.  I wouldn't go over that since you are having trouble with hair loss.

I agree with SusanW. It's normal to shed after pregnancy, also get your iron levels checked again. Iron defiencency can cause your hair to shed and turn colors.

I was a severe anemic for years and my hair was dry and turned orange and gray. Real attractive  It was like that for years until I got my blood levels straight.
