Don't use chemicals and keep it trimmed, conditioned and moisturized. Keep heat styling to a minimum....the most heat i use is once every two weeks to flat iron.

Try to take good care of my hair. Only use good products. Limit heat use.

I disagree, I have very long hair and I use heat all the time. I think the secret is finding what products work on you. Not all "black" products are for black hair. Most have mineral and petroleum oil.
I blowdry my hair everytime I wash it and flat iron it afterwards. Plus I flat iron it about every day. Also, I always use some kind of heat protectant (John Frieda's Blow-Dry Creme, Garnier Fructis' Smooth Milk) before I blowdry it or else your hair will break. It leaves my hair so smooth and silky. Some people trim their hair every 4-9 weeks religiously. I only trim it if I ABSOLUTELY HAVE to, when I start seeing split ends. I wear my hair out, curled, in ponytails, buns, bone straight, every kind of style.
I think you should keep your regime simple too. Some people do wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much to their hair. diedre012538574.2260185185 |

I used a very simple regime and wrapped my hair every night. I don't use oils or take vitamins for my hair or anything like that. And whenever I was going to do something which required heat (all the time) I used a thermal heat protectant such as John Freida's Blow-Dry creme. |

I'd say the things that helped me the most were cutting back on the heat, making sure that I moisturize daily, protective styling, and using petroleum free, SLS/ALS free, and mineral oil free products. |

so if the key is to moisturize daily how do you guys do it.
do you part your hair into four sections to get to the scalp or do you just grease you.

For wrapping my hair, I simply use a silk scarf. Sometimes I don't even wrap my hair but I suggest not doing that.
And I never, ever, ever grease my scalp or put grease in my hair. |

I never wrap my hair because it never stays. I get like the first side wrapped then the rest won't stay up.

I've heard other complaints of how wrapping thins hair. I haven't had any problems w/ it thus far, but don't want any damage in the long run. So, I'm curious as to HOW and WHAT causing the thinning??? < ,) C bn`der% 0bb "2,`` )2-!-),%) %,%)$ b "$

Wrapping thinned your hair?! Wow! I'm sorry to hear that :(
What do you do with it at night then? |

I think the thinning just came from me brushing it in that circle every night--its not really a "natural" direction for the hair to be combed or brushed in. I tried changing the direction of the wrap to see if that would help---but it wasn't long before I just threw in the towel all together My lil hair just didn't like it. I try not to manipulate my hair too much nowadays and wrapping all this hair (especially since I like to stretch my relaxers) requires an act of Congress and alot of manipulation.
At night, I just moisturize my hair and pin it in a loose bun with no ties and holders and tie it down with a scarf. |

That's awesome, I do that after I long night of studying or partying (since I take less classes in the summer). Thanks for that information, I didn't know wrapping can be so harmful. Your hair looks very nice though :) |

Sistaslick,
Can you show a picture or explain how you put your hair in this bun at night

Wow, I didn't realize wrapping would cause some damage. I used to do it all the time & I stopped because my hair was too thick. Now, since I'm trying to get my hair back really healthy, I decided to try wrapping it again and have been doing so every night. I guess I'll go back to my bun at night. Just curious Sistaslick, you said you put your hair in a "loose bun, with no ties or holders and tie it down with a scarf". How do you keep your hair together until you tie it down if you don't hold it down with something? Sorry if it's a stupid question - just having a hard time with the visual! Sistaslick - Your pic shows your hair from August to February. In that 6 month period, what did you do/use? Your hair is gorgeous and so thick. Mine used to be & always has been, but last year this time (about 8 months after the birth of my daughter), my hair started to thin (shedding badly) & has continued on this path until about a week ago when I decided to go back to my old regimine of Nioxin products. I noticed that you said no petroleum/mineral oil/SLS/ALS free products - what do you use to moisturize with on a nightly basis? Do you relax your hair?
Diedre0125 - you mentioned that you never grease your scalp or put grease in your hair. How do you moisturize daily and keep it soft? Your hair is very pretty! Aaan 00" , 0 /04" $!,$() $ ,%! ,8 B
