Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum!

I used to have very straight hair up until the 7th grade (I'm in the 11th now). Now, my hair is extremely thick and unmanageable (and has some curls in it). Can hair type change over time? What are some ways for me to bring my straight hair back? I'd give anything to have straight hair again. :(

I shower everyday and use conditioner, if that makes a difference.

Probably puberty changed it.

You shower everyday just tells us you wash your body, has nothing to do with your hair. So are you saying you wash your hair everyday and use conditioner?

If you truly are using Conditioner-Only (CO), and it works for you, then stick with it. Curly hair does really well without shampoo at all. $$ )'```ara $).,`` %*,`r !,,!-- ,,)-% ! " $4

Yes, I wash my hair everyday and use conditioner. Is there anyway I could get straight hair again?

Why is the grass always greener on the other side?  Here I am using socks to get my hair curly, and there you are wanting straight hair. It looks like your hair has decided to be curly. Really, you can't change the curliness of your hair unless you relax, chemically straighten, or use a flat iron. All of them can damage curly hair in the long run.

I say love your curls.

Well, my hair doesn't have "curls" in it per se. It's like straight from the roots, but halfway, it's like...Wavy.

You mean some of the tips of your hair just curls a little, not even half a circle? Try not getting your hair wet for a few days, meaning dont wash or condition it and see what happens. My ends in the back curl up just a tiny bit but sometimes I don't wet my hair for a few days it just straightens.SumoSamurai38466.9684953704

If I don't wash my hair for a few days, my hair magically straightens out (well, most of it does).

Show me a pic of your curled hair, every part of it.

Damnit, I don't have a digital camera. Here's a shot of my hair with my webcam (I know, it's not that good...)

Note: I'm from the Middle East, so technically I'm Asian. ^_^

I don't see why you'd want to straighten. Those curls look gorgeous. $$ )'```ara $).,`` %*,`r !,,!-- ,,)-% ! " $4

...

You said "(and has some curls in it)".....riight...."some"...

I was thinking you might have the same thing as me. My hair is very straight, but sometimes my hair wave up just a tiny bit at the ends of my slip in the front. Also the ends of my back hair wave up a little, but after 2-3 days without wetting it, it becomes straight.

You got an afro.

Thanks AnaisSatin. :)

SumoSamurai, those curls are at the end of my hair (the rest of my hair is wavy). I once straightened my hair via hot iron (or whatever they're called).

You can't make your hair straight without chemically straightening it, or use flat irons. Yeah, I bet it's because of puberty. Well too bad for you, you're stuck with wavy/curly hair.

Your hair is fine anyways.

I don't have any money to get my hair chemically straightened, and I don't think I should mess with that stuff...

Duracell, you have gorgeous curls--I only wish I could be able to have curls like that. You shouldn't think about chemically straightening/ flat ironing it because:

-The "in" look for guys these days is long curly hair just like yours (at least for teenagers).

-It will only damage your hair, making everything more unmanageable in the long run.

-You never know how your hair might react to the chemicals. It make end up wavy or kinky, straight, or just an actual "afro".

However, if you're bent on having straight hair, you could flat iron, chemically straighten, or wet combing (which might not work to make your hair as straight as you want because it's meant for people with relatively straight hair, but you could give it a try).

Anais has directions for wet combing in her Medusa's Lair.

Your hair's beautiful, so I hope that helps!

Experiment with all kinds of stuff till you find what you like.

Yeah, that's the exact reason why I don't want to get my hair chemically straightened. Too many risks. :(

But I wonder what I should do with my hair. I've been thinking of growing it out, but I have no idea.

Oh, and thanks for the compliment. ^_^

Does anyone here watch Smallville? I was thinking of having my hair like Clark's (the actor is Tom Welling), but I have no idea if my hair can do that.

Duracell,

Heehee, I think you'll find more people who say "I LOVE YOUR CURLS" than people who don't!

So, there's no way I could have my hair like Tom Welling's? After a few days of not having water touch my hair, most of the curls straighten out...But it still has some waves in it.

Well, do you prefer it with the waves? As long as you don't have the 'bad hair smell' after not washing for a few days, go for it! Many people wash their hair about once every 3 or 4 days if they don't develope much grease on their scalp.

Tom Welling does have wavy hair, and you could just try a few creamy leave-in conditioners to weigh your hair down without having to go days without washing your hair to get similar waves. Experiment and see what's best for you!

Could you recommend me a good leave-in conditioner? Also, what's a good shampoo to use? I found some Pantene (w/ amino proteins), V05, and some kids shampoo under the bathroom sink. I was thinking of using the kids shampoo because it might be the gentlest on my hair. ^_^

hey i have curly hair too. i had my hair cut last friday and i told my stylist i was sick and tired of the same short buzz i get every month, so she suggested to cut miy side with a shears really short and use this really weird looking scissors that has a jagged blade, that looks like a pair or wood saw made into scissors blade to cut my crown and the back of my hair. she then use some hard gel and spiked my curly hair

the results...

I LOVE IT

those weird scissors seem to cut away most of the curls without cutting it too short. my hair felt softer. so weird. and my hair could be spikes although its a curly spike. you might want to find out if the place where you cut your hair do this procedure

oh yeah anyone here knows what the heck are those scissors and how they work.

anaisatin.... karen ... HELP

Would I need to grow out my hair a bit longer to achieve Tom Welling's style? Or should I go for a different hair style?

Posted By: Duracell

If I can't achieve Tom Welling's style, I was thinking of growing out my hair like John Glover's (before he cut it). Is that even possible? If you still don't know what I'm talking about, image google his name.

My hair (when I brush it back...) is like his now (after he got it cut). Could I possibly grow out my hair like that?

John Glover rocks ^_^ .  If your hair looks like his now, I guess it would stand to reason it could still resemble his if you did another of his styles. . . unless the only reason his looks good is the constant attention of on-set stylists. . .

Hair grows about half an inch a month.

Maybe they were thinning shears? I have no idea, but that's what they sound like.

When will my hair start to grow "downward"? Or is my hair too short now?

Posted By: AnaisSatin
Date Posted: May 15, 2005 at 9:24pm

Well shoot. I don't see how your hair could really "grow down" unless it's much much longer. Also keep in mind that curly hair takes longer to have a visible difference in growth.

here's Eddie: http://www.pearl-jam.com/pictures/ev1/evrspg.jpg

Is this what you mean?

Ooh, I like the middle-aged guy.

Well, I can tell you one thing: Growing takes a long time. Hair grows an average of 6 inches per year. This means 6 inches stretched out straight (so maybe 3 inches of visible growth for you?) Just keep that in mind. There is nothing that can speed up your growth, so just be patient, eat well, drink water, take a multivitamin, and be gentle to your hair (no chemicals, no blowdrying). I think your hair will look terrific when it's that long.

Good luck

I figure it should take at least 2 years to get that length...The only thing I don't like right now is the fact that my hair looks horrible when I go to school. Oh well, I guess I'm gonna have to deal with it until it grows out.

Anais, thank you SO MUCH. :)
