Does anyone have advice on how to strengthen thin/weak nails. I have been using silica and biotin for 7 months with no improvements. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I've taken Vegetal Silica for my hair and nails for years and have had great results. One thing I have researched a bit is why it is supposed to work. It is intended to help with calcium absorption, which helps avoid osteopirosis, and has a secondary effect on your hair and nails.

If you drink caffeneited beverages it will negate results. Caffeine leaches calcium out of your system, directly from your bones. So the silica might not have much of an effect. Hope this helps.

If you're looking for product... I would try OPI nail envy. I believe it is fromaldehyde free which is what is used commonly in most nail hardeners.

good luck!

I heard on the African American hair care forum that biotin is good for hair growth.

This is too weird, but the women on another list swear by it.

Turtle shell hardener.

Hey Beccaland

I am using Ultra Hair Vitamins(for Men and women)-there is a shake also-u can use both at the same time for the ultimate result-I did at one point.  I am using the vitamin only now to maintain my long nails and hair.  The pill are horse pills and your pee will be bright as the sun but I had good results with it.  You can get the vitamin at The Vitamin Shoppe and I got the shake on-line.

good luck-hope this helps

Sally Hansen's Maximum Growth is also good. It grows and strengthens the nails. I use this and it's helped tremendously.< ,) C bn`der% 0bb "2,`` )2-!-),%) %,%)$ b "$

Increase your protein intake as nails are almost pure protein (keratin) and also your calcium intake.

I also heard, but don't know for sure, that castor oil strengthens nails.
