Anyone catch Alanis before the beginning of the 3rd quarter kickoff tonight on Monday Night Football?

She looked pretty hot to me...even sexy with her short hair...anyone else?

My two cents.

We all know what opinions are like...and I've got both!

I saw that too and thought, "hey, she's attractive. Who's that?" I was surprised it was Alanis because I hadn't liked her short haircut before.

You've hit the nail on the head, Rod. "Attractive" is a desciption that needn't have been used to describe Alanis until she hit her 50's at least, if she kept her amazing hair! What was she thinking? I'd bet a sizeable percentage of her fans attended her shows because she was super HOT as a Rapunzel. Bob

I bet NO ONE but you would attend her concert only because of her hair... and maybe Gord and Dave....lol

Yes, I've seen pictures of Alanis in which her hair looked like a rat's nest, but these photos are rare exceptions. Most times it looked angelic, even at thigh length.
When I saw Crystal Gayle years ago, I was shocked to hear hundreds of male fans whooping it up every time she turned her back and swayed her hair. I wasn't alone! NOW I know that there are millions of men who go bonkers over a woman's LONG hair, but it's not the macho thing to admit! Trust me, Alanis has lost far more potential concert attendees than me, Gord and Dave. (lol) Bob

This is just silly. Most people don't buy Alanis's music or go to her concerts because they have a long hair fetish.

I agree that she didn't take care of her long hair very well and she didn't look as good in long hair as some women do.
As a short haired gal, of course I'm glad to see that she wears short hair so well and seems happy with it.,

Hal...HAL! I'm so long out of the "closet" I've forgotten what's in there! You gave me a good laugh. Thanks, Bob
Oh, and Jasmine, I'm not shocked that you like short hair on Alanis. Call it intuition! (lol) Just teasing, Jasmine! You and I are definitely not viewing the same photos from her pre-chop days. Best, Bob

Hate to burst your bubble curly, but Alanis has said in a few interviews that the video shows her cutting a wig, she had already cut her hair.

I hope not, but I want to ask this question:

Can't a woman look good in short hair and long hair?

And if you think a woman looks good with a certain haircut, does that mean you have a fetish?

Not all long hair is bad.
Not all short hair is good.

The answer, as usual, lies somewhere in the middle (usually around the shoulders)

OK, this is my bottom line on Alanis. If Alanis had vaulted into the public consciousness with her present shaggy short cut, no one would have much commented on it then or now. It looks decent, not scintillating. And, I think she's very pretty despite the chop.
The people who are raving about it are those who simply enjoy seeing change, and maybe those grateful that their hubbies are no longer nagging them to "grow it like Alanis". (lol) She really looks like most other women now, so what's the big deal? When she was a Rapunzel, a large percentage of fans drooled over her sensuality.
The hair is gone; I don't like it, but I respect her choice. *My* choice has been to stop following her TV appearances. If she's on, great, but now it's a surprise for me. She's in love, and I'm happy for her, and I wish her the best. Bob

I applaud Alanis for doing as she wished with herself and her hair. She looks great. As far as those who ditched her when she cut her hair, well, I guess they really weren't fans of her music...I guess this is good for her as now she knows who her real fans are.

[/QUOTE]Hal, your typing really has been suffering lately. No offense, bro, but you really need to use Spell Check. (Note: Sticking to promise never to comment on Alanis' hair again since she broke my heart.)

Jacqui, I am still a big fan of Alanis' music, including her recent release. And, I think she'd look pretty with any non-boyish style. She looks plenty cute now. But I can't pretend that Alanis hasn't lost that intangible mystique and awesome power that her trademark locks gave her.
Brent, I know many guys love short hair, but what I'm saying is that she's now one of many attractive fishes in the sea for men who think long hair is divine. Best, Bob

Vineman, I think it's sad that Alanis chopped her hair to rid herself of her last vestige of femininity, but this board is supposed to be fun. I, too, am drawn to feminine tresses, but you are WAY too angry! Hair issues are not life and death matters. Bob

What I believe she is trying to say is that she was insecure in her feminity before. She needed one of the traditional pillars of femininity, very long hair, to ensure herself that was feminine. Now that she feels more secure in her femininity, she feels she doesn't need long hair to tell her she is a woman. She needs to show that, so she cut her hair off. Now, she probably feels more feminine than she did with long hair.

Well, actually, not necessarily "consumed," but there seems to be a certain predominance of it on this board. That general "crew" came here in the early days of HB, following JF when he migrated from elsewhere on the 'net. At least that's how I remember it.

It's interesting to note that when Alanis had long hair that some people here said (effectively) "she's ugly" (or unattractive), now that it's short some of the same folks say she's beautiful. Seems to be a bit of gloating by a few, too.

And then there's Bob S.

Whoa there big fella. I ain't taken responsibility for the short hair or long hair fantatics around here. Especially since I feel like I'm the lone voice of moderation at times and I've put up many posts chatising both sides when they begin to let their predilections run rampant over everyone else's opinions.

And as for following me, I was on another generic hair/beauty site before I came here, not "Buzzy's Bald Chicks". And before you short hair fetishists go look, no, that's not a real site.

Hi JF,

Not assigning any "blame" or "credit" to you. Just noticed back then that you had a following... a flock of loyal fans.

One other thought on the original subject... seems there was a portrayal of her long hair being a "vestige" of her femininity which needed (?) to be released to gain freedom... to fall into other vestiges of femininity she took up, specifically "feminine" dressing and make-up. Isn't it ironic? Indeed. (note to Alanis: you really can have it all, if you want it - you don't have to pick and choose.)

Oddly enough, her haircut, combined with a horrible release, "Everything", has served to make her seem paase. She now must seem to kids, at 30, to be part of the "older" crowd!
Her shows have much smaller crowds, and her album sales are about 1% of Jagged Little Pill. Too bad, b/c So Called Chaos is VERY good. Just a note to other artists (Amy Lee, Gretchen Wilson, Sarah Brightman, etc.) : Pay no attention to whining gossip columnists who berate your trademark manes; beautiful long hair sells- big time! It takes too long to bring it back once it's gone. Bob

By your "logic" Bob, that means that Crystal Gayle is the biggest selling artist of all time!!!!!

Oh, what a minute, there is no correlation between hair length and album sales.....look at Madonna, her short haired albums sold better than her long haired albums.

Bob why not try this... next time there is a concert in your area featuring a big name female, stand outside the venue with pen and clip board in hand. Ask as many people as you can if hair length has anyhting to do with why they are there or why they buy a CD. I'm betting within 15 minutes the looks get from those you poll will tell you what a freak... I mean how off the mark you are!

You have never seen a Crystal show if you think that no one comes to see her with her Rapunzel hair. She is 53 now, but she still wows men, myself included! (lol)

Posted By: ssjockey
Date Posted: Nov 1, 2004 at 5:38pm
Bob, first of all, you have no idea if I have seen a Crystal show or not. And I never said that people don't go see her because of her long hair.

With that said, maybe the long hair got her attention 30 years ago when she started out, but she hasn't had a hit since Reagan was President, and her hair length has nothing to do with record sales, or lack thereof. She is a very nice singer, quite unremarkable, except for her long hair. One pretty voice out of hundreds, no more, no less.
