Hey everyone! I am new to this industry and new to this website...I am getting ready to start working at a salon and was wondering if you had any good ideas as to how to build clientele? I am ready to work my butt off but would like to hear some advice from all of you who have been successful in your endeavors. I would greatly appreciate a little help from all of you wise ones :)

Lots of love

Stephanie

I found my hairdresser from an ad in Clipper magazine (it's like Pennysaver). It was a really small color ad and said that she does a color and cut (or t-section highlights) for $65. She said she got so much response from the ad that she had a 2-month wait list at first. She also has a referral program where every friend you refer knocks of $5 next time you come in. I referred 4 people and hey, $20 meant I could get a pedi so I thought it was great. She also works late (until closing at 10:00) and she told me that she gets a very high majority of her clients after 4:30 pm.

Just an idea...hope it helps.

Hi,

Yes...I have gotten a lot of email from up and coming hairdressers and it seems that the ads in the neighborhood magazines do work very well for a lot of them.

I also know a hairdresser who ran ads in her church bulletin and that got her a lot of new customers right away.  Most people are nervous about finding a new hairdresser but will try someone that is close to where they live or someone that goes to their church.  There is a lot of word of mouth recommendations that people make.  So make sure you just get your business cards out there.

Also, offer do some hair for free for your friends and family and then ask them to carry your business cards and when they get asked about their gorgeous color or style, give out your business card.  It really works.

Good luck to you.

Karen
