Hi im a teenage guy looking for some help with my hair its about medium to long length and thick. I'm looking for a newer look like a band members or just plain shaggy but i definitely want it long. If anybody had any pics i could see or ideas please let me know. Thanks |

I am all for shaggy longhaired boys. Grow the fro! check out Rooney, the band with hair that is shaggy, yet a bit tamed. Unlike some old rockers.  The Strokes have cool hair too, especially Fab. But they all cut it periodically.  PS. Saw new pic of Rooney, not so tame now. |

Your hair looks great! When in doubt, Kurt Cobain a.k.a. Kurdt Kobain always had great hair. If you're trying to grow out, yes sometimes hair will get in your way... If any hair-hold product solves your problem temporarily, I wouldn't discourage you from using it.. but try not to get addicted! it could cause long term dryness. Ooh, that would look gorgeous on you! It would add some balance to your high cheekbones and vertical features. But do note that the pic's guy has stick straight hair, so don't beat yourself up getting the exact EXACT same thing. Grow out a bit longer, and copy/print that hair model's picture--take it to a stylist for a cut.. or you could do it yourself. It's like a modified Beatle cut, kinda. Sorry Shaun2k, I don't know much about cuts and styling either. .. more of a natural hippie long hair care person. Anais is a hair goddess! You'll find that she's always willing to help. I wish you the best of luck in growing out hair. I believe that we were given hair to grow it out...not to chop it every month

Ok im sorry for being such a whiner but i have a bit of a problem on my http://thegreatmuke.tripod.com/hair.html - Pictures page i posted up some new pics. My hair is growing out fine in fact its not much different but the back is getting much longer than the front and its starting to get shapeless what should i do? Should i go and get it trimmed and tell the person that i want it to grow out and look like the pic above or do something else any feedback would be appreciated. From what I see, you're hair is growing out fine for that hairstyle. If the back is getting too long, you'll need to trim the back to avoid a mullet. Continue to grow out the sides and front. Unless you live in a small town, you can wait until semi-mullet to start trimming. I would suggest to have a family member or friend trim. A barber or stylist, more than likely, will take off too much and you'll end up with a reverse mullet. Long in the front, razor clean in the back. You'll save some cash too. Really, if you don't think about your hair that much. You'll notice more growth. It's like a watched pot of boiling water. PS. Watched Almost Famous on DVD today, I was mesmerized by the long hippie hair. Are you opposed to this hair?

Hey its me again sorry you're all probably a little sick of hearing from me but i have a question once again. My hair is starting to get pretty long and kinda shaggy (its cool i get compliments) but i still have one little problem. My hair is really dry or rough either way i've tried using conditioner and it makes my hair soft but it also makes my hair look really oily. You are probably using a conditioner that is not formulated for your hair type. On days that I just want to feel clean. I use a Dove foaming conditioner. They have Volumizing Color and Extra Volume formulas. I just like it because it's easy to put on and wash off. There are some shampoos that moisturize well enough that you can conditioner less. But they are salon brands. |

Can you go into a little more detail about the process and what will my hair look like with that in it, oh, and how long would i leave it in? Thanks, Shaun2k "It's where you oil with a cheap carrier oil, like Coconut oil (great) or Sweet Almond (both are found in health food stores or online from soapmaker ingredient websites) ... and then you leave it in for as long as possible. Wash it out with your regular shampoo and finish with a conditioner. The oils will seep into your hair for a deep moisture treatment. I've seen a lot less frizz with this routine. Hi Shaun2k, What I do: I oil using about a tablespoon (long hair) Use a teaspoon or less for short hair. I work it through my hair with my fingers, massaging around until the oil is evenly distributed. Takes about 10-15 minutes to massage through. Then I bun my hair and basically forget about it for a few hours, maybe curl up in a blanket and watch a movie, or do homework, etc.. The oil shouldn't smear everywhere if you use the right amount. The amount should absorb into your hair. Then hop into the shower and make sure you shampoo it out really well. Finish off with a light conditioner and you're done! Actually, speaking of conditioners, you'll want to try a no-cone conditioner (without anything ending in "cone" or "conol" because it sounds like your hair isn't reacting well to that plastic ingredient) Check the label. Some shorthairs can lightly oil to replace conditioner as well. Oiling, as a routine, is pretty simple. It's not much of a science. You can do it almost any way you want. Some people even oil with 1-2 drops as a leave-in conditioner. Some people oil with 1-2 drops after a shower when their hair is still wet. That tends to work nicely too. Give it a try-- there are at least three ways you could do it: (1) heavy prewash oiling (2) leave-in oiling while wet (3) leave-in oiling on dry hair. One of them will work best for you. Speaking of light conditioners, here are a few (drugstore brands) for you to consider. My favorite, as I have mentioned is Dove Foaming Conditioner. It looks like shaving creme and feels weightless. Pantene Full and Thick has also been praised by fine haired people. Clairol Renewal 5x (neon green bottle, not as green as Garnier) claims to wash away cleanly and prevent buildup. Most conditioners that claim to give volume, is probably light and clean rinsing. PS. You probably know this, but don't condition your roots, completely avoid cowlicks. Your hair will get dirtier, faster. Just smooth from an inch from the roots down to the ends. |
