Bleach First Or Not?

Before dyeing your hair, do you always bleach it?  Or not?

I heard that if you're trying a lighter color (than your natural one), you're supposed to bleach it first.

Is that a myth or is that something that must be done?

Yes, if you want to go more than a shade or 2 lighter than your natural color you will have to lighten your hair first.
