My skin got super depleted/damaged in 2011 from prescription acne products. They got rid of my acne alright but pretty much stripped my skin barriers away and left me with really red, sensitive, dehydrated skin.

My skin is a lot better now since I've been treating it gently all year and using aloe vera and emu oil in recent months to restore it. I've decided now to start being healthy from the inside by eating as healthy as I can, exercising every day, and meditating (as well as taking supplements such as fermented cod liver oil and astaxanthin).

I'm looking for tips on how to treat the skin from the outside. What are the best ways to restore moisture and vitality to thinned, dried out skin? I've heard some people recommend exfoliating with oats but I'm worried exfoliating will just further irritate my skin, but some people who say they depleted their skin barriers say it works.

Hi Andra2000,

I feel for you. When I was a lot younger a lot of my friends went oon probably the same prescription drug for their acne and I agree it left the skin acne free but in a terrible shape afterwards.

I wouldn't go for exfoliating - not just yet.
You might need to go for some anti aging products.

Estee Lauder has an Advanced Night Repair Serum. I used this when my skin started feeling rough. I thought it needed to be exfoliated but in fact it was damage. It's rather expensive for a bottle but really if you look on amazon or ebay you can probably pick up a sample for a couple of dollars.

Other than that I suggest that you swap out all of your face products for products that offer a dry skin alternative. So for example, get a dry skin cleanser, moisturizer, foundation - you get where I am going with this

Remember that the acne came from the inside and the medication also worked from the inside, so remember to keep drinking as much water as you can all day long to keep yourself very well hydrated.

I am sorry that this post has taken so long to be responded to! Hope it helps

You mentioned your skin is dehydrated but is it also oily at the same time or is it also on the dry side?  Which parts are dehydrated, oily, normal, or dry?

Damage skin will repair on its own. Just eat healthy foods, rich in Vitamin A, C, E and iron. Use facial wash containing salicylic acid, tocopherol and green tea. Take green tea daily, exercise, use facial scrub once a week and apply sunblock daily. Hope these helps.

Go to a skin care specialist and get best treatment for your skin. Daily exercising, full night sleep, and healthy diet plan is also helpful in repairing damaged skin.sophia4442015-04-03 07:06:12

For treating the skin on the outside, it's important to get a high quality product that will make your skin feel healthy and hydrated. I recently found an amazing serum that helps diminish wrinkles, evens out skin tone from old acne spots and makes your skin feel super soft. ISA Professional's XANADU 24k Vitamin C serum even has gold flecks in it; I like to multitask and use it as a makeup primer, as well. It makes my makeup stay in place all day and hydrates me at the same time, so it's pretty awesome. I highly recommend it. Another tip would be to rub an ice cube all over your face and neck until the ice cube melts, it sounds odd but my pimples almost disappeared the next day! You can get the XANADU here: http://www.isa-professional.com/

As we go about our daily lives, there are several things that can damage the skin. Sun exposure is by far the number one damaging element.  Skin and face moisturizer is very essential factor in skin care nourishment.

This vitamin C is anti-aging vitamin works externally as well! Not only is it a powerful antioxidant that protects your skin from damage, but it also is critical in the formation of collagen, which helps smooth wrinkles and firm skin.
