you have dreadlocks, do you wash them?

Because our neighbor has them, and boy oh boy, hers were just as puuu-eee as EVER! YUK! Never had I unintentionally smelled them, as she twas sittin' right next to us and didn't expect them to be so stinky. Isn't it possible for a person to work shampoo into those and rinse them off effectively in the shower? Because they are kinda cool looking but come on, they deserve to be clean, yeah? Yes.
