Humdity...and other problems

I have moderately thick shoulderlength hair with bangs and layers. Every time there is even a a LITTLE humidity...my hair poofs up...or the layers flip out and I start to look like country singers (no offesne...they jus thave a lot of the flips in their hair). Plus my bangs decide it would be fun to drive me crazy and curl into a wave. I HATE dealing with this! I blow dry &straighten my hair...I change my shampoos and conditioners a lot. I try to dry my hair as much possibel and save the straightner for finishing touches as it does less damage. I am SO upset that this happens...sometimes even when it's not humid it freaks out and curls or thickens at the most random times. Once in a blue moon my hair is straight, and STAYS that way! I protect my hair and try not to damage my hair too much by not adding to many products to my hair. I don't want to try any permanents straghteners...does anyone have tips to seal in the locks so they REMAIN straight>??? Cuz I am so through with all of <<this>> palikane2006-07-25 15:27:12

What kind  of products do you use? What is your hair regimen? Do you use a flat iron and If you do, which brand?

My hair is moderatly thick and mildly wavy bordering curls (it looks so wierd) My regimen includes the basic shampoo and conditioner...I use dangerously straight by Herbal Essences.. Ever so often I use reconstruction by Aussie and leave in conditioner by Garnier. I dry my hair for the most part and use hair protectant by VO5...then I use my Cricket straightener. Ok, you definitly need a better iron. The Solia is great and compare to others, very affordable. I myself own a Sedu. But I tried my friends Solia and loved it.  It is heavier than the Sedu, wich to me is a good thing. The Sedu is a little too light for my taste, but it does work wonders. It also gets way too hot on the outside, and the Solia doesn't.

That being said, you need to use better products. When you heat style your hair, you have to take extra good care of it. I wrote down my hair regimen on a previous post. It is titled "the fight against humidity". If you click on the Straight Talk forum and go to page number 3, you should be able to find it. It is too much information for me to write it all down again.

I know initialy is going to be an investment, but trust me, it is worth it. Your hair is your most important accesory, so treat it right.

Okay...well I FINALLY got my Solia yesterday, and let's just say I never knew that the straightner was supposed to glide over your hair in stead of basically raking it (Not that my hair is like the Rake-Type). It's pretty good, then again i did a lazy drying job. It just loves to poof up though the next morning lol. Anyways I went to the salon yesterday and they DIDN'T have the Heat Glide! Needless to say I was a little disappointed since you don't normally find Redken at your local Target lol. I did get the butter treatment but I haven't had the time to do it because of volleyball tryouts (Three days- 2 sessions- 4 hours....fun!) and other engagements but I'm so excited to start doing the protien treatments and such...I'll def keep you posted.

Honey I feel your pain. I am a hairdresser who was embarassed to tell anyone my profession during the summer months! Gosh what a frizz ball my hair was UNTIL I started getting Thermal Reconditioning. I started with an Optismooth TR with the flat iron, and now I get the Optismooth cold to give me some body since I have fine hair.

REDKEN SMOOTH DOWN IS A GOD! I love it sooo much! It made my hair soft and settled it down! I just got like 10 compliments on it today from old friends especially with my new Solia! Now I just need to get hte Heat Prot Spray...! Thanks Shary! I love Redken!

Oh! it makes me so happy to hear that! So glad it worked for you as good as it has for me. Another fellow puffy head saved LOL, makes jump with joy. Remember the smooth down line is heavy, so you need to clarify at least once a month to prevent the build up from ruining your beatiful look.

Since you are using Redken, you should use the Hair Cleansing Cream once a week for clarifying. It is a wonderful shampoo.

The Hair Redken cleansing cream is great, however a little too good LOL. If you color your hair you can not use it. It even says it on the bottle. It will strip your color right out. So, if don't color, I say use it for sure, but if you do, get something gentler. Back to basics or Paul Mitchell Shampoo two.

We were talking clarifying shampoos, were we not? All clarifying shampoos will pull color a bit. Some worse than others, and certainly worse than Hair cleansing cream.

Okay well I got some Pantene Classic Clean Shampoo lying around so I'll keep that dully noted...I still gotta get that heat glidee....

I wouldn't go with the pantene one, too many bad ingredients, including the ones that cause premature wrinkles. When it comes to clarifying shampoos, you really want to get a good one. Otherwise you might end up with super dry hair. Paul mitchell shampoo two at about $5 bucks a bottle is not a bad deal. Cleanses really well, yet is gentle enough, and it smells so good.

Why don't you try what I did?

I think I'll stick with teh Redken...the butter treat is already a blessing...if not I'll try to get the Chi..but it's harder to find :((
