Ok so yesterday I go to get a much needed cut and I brought a friend
along with me to the salon. When I got there the hairdresser asked what I
wanted and I told her how I wanted it cut. My friend happened to
remember me telling her how I wanted highights because I was bored of
my color and told the hairdresser that I wanted blonde highlights also. I
was bored of my 4 seasons coloring(light and then darker for each
season) so I just decided to get the highlights and see how it looked.
I told the hairdresser that I did not want bold highlights I wanted very
natural highlights but apparantly she was a little short on time and doing
natural highlights takes longer. So she starts globbing on the bleach and
tinfoil. Every so often I'd look up from talking to my friend to notice that
there is a lot of bleach on my head. I'd start to panic but then I'd tell
myself that I'm not the trained professional here and that I should let her
do what I'm paying her to do.
After the rinse I look in the mirror and my hair looks like spaghetti. But I
assure myself that my hair hasn't dryed yet and it will look ok once it
dries. Well it's dried and my hair has big chunky white NOT blonde
highlights all over my head. They don't even look real because they don't
go all the way up to the roots My friend of course thinks it looks great.
When I got home I started crying.. I look like a man with a very bad
highlighting job. This morning I decided that I had to do something
about it before Easter so as stupid as this sounds I started to try to pull
some of the highlights out to make it look more natural. Now I have an
uneven hairline and a very sore head to go with my tearstreaked face.
I know that my story isn't as bad as some that I've read. My hair is at
least healthy and the cut doesn't look that bad even if it is 2 inches
shorter than what I asked for.
I'm trying to think of a few things that would make the highlights look
better. I was thinking about trying one of those glaze things to try to
make them darker. Does anyone know if they work or if they look any
good?   Or can you suggest something else?

Hi

I'm so sorry to hear about this dreadful experience that you have had. I am not really qualified or anything but have had lots of highlights myself in the past. My advice to you would be to buy a   toner ( from Sally's beauty supplies ) and apply it to your hair. You can get various different shades of toner ie. Ash blonde, Golden blond ect. depending on what shade of highlights you would like. The toners are gentle on your hair so don't be worried about further damage by it. Also, you should use a good deep conditioner and weekly treatment to try to assist the damaged hairs recovery. Other than that( and in my opinion the best option) go back to the salon and ask them to do something about it, It wasn't your problem that the stylist didn't have time, and you should not have had to pay the price for her late schedule. What ever you do, please stop pulling your hair out as this will not help you. If you do decide to go back to the salon don't put any colouring products on your hair first or they will refuse to correct it. Hope this helps.

Hi

I forgot to mention that as your highlights are so light, you would need to do a strand test if you go for the toner option. You say that your hair is not damaged but it sounds to me as if the highlighted areas are very damaged as you described them as having a spaghetti like appearence. This would probably mean that you may not have to leave a toner on for the full developing time. The only way to establish this is to time a strand test and keep checking the colour every 5 minutes or so. I do however, still feel that you should be returning to the salon for the appropriate treatment. Good Luck

..Wow. I'm really sorry to hear what happened.  It really isn't your fault the stylist didn't have enough time. Coloring takes time and patience, so I would have been either extremely worried or would have walked out from the start.

..Now, I'm generally an all-over nice person, but this is def. the time I would have called to complain. You didn't get what you paid for. I'm not exactly sure as of what to do, but I just wanted to let you know that worse things could have happend. ..I dyed my hair yesterday -- went from a light pale blonde to brown ..then tried going back to blonde. Didn't exactly work, even though I removed the color and everything.

I know there is something out there you can get, just don't worry.
