Our youngest, Spencer, is almost 2 years old.  He has a shock of blondish curly (very curly) hair.  It's never been cut or trimmed, because it looks gorgeous (parental licence to boast).  We keep it in good shape, ie regular (not necessarily frequent) shampooing and we pick it to keep it tangle free.  We'll probably have it cut ............. sometime.

However, we often receive comments like 'if you cut it he'll grow tall' or 'you must cut a baby's hair as soon as possible if you want it to grow thick'.  These comments give us a bit of a laugh really, but we're always surprised that these old wives tales still seem to govern some parents' behaviour in bringing up their children.

However, it does prompt us to ask a general question: Do you have any tips on caring for a baby's/infant's hair? or is common sense the way to go?

Thanks.

Cutting hair does not make it thicker regardless of whether it's a baby, child, adult etc.

Only cut the hair if you desire to do so. That said, you don't have to buzz his hair off. You can get it just trimmed a tiny bit to remove any splits if there are any. Or to reshape it a bit.

I say common sense is the common sense way to go. I think you're doing just fine.

As far as tips, when detangling hair start near the ends and work your way up like a ladder. That will prevent the tangles from being combed into each other and making them worse.

Try not to comb or brush wet hair unless you are using a wide tooth comb. I know personally what brushing wet hair the wrong way does. It rips the hair off.

Those are basics. You probably know those.
