I've been using my straightners for a little while now (ghd's <3) and I've noticed my hairs losing it's shine a bit. I use heat protection spray which is great but i wondered if you guys know about any other products that you can spray on to make it more shiny, or anything else that might help? Thanks

Hi Thumbelina

At least four things can affect shine.

  • Silicone conditioners, "defrizzer" sprays, and "shine serums" can increase shine by coating the hair strand in a polymer (plastic). Silicone conditioners include L'Oreal, Garnier, Pantene, and Herbal Essences. Their ingredients will include ingredients that end in "cone", "conol", or "siloxane". Silicones are not for everyone. More information can be found here.
  • Rough outer surface of the hair. Multiple instances of hair dye or perms can cause the surface of the hairs to be roughened, so the hair doesn't reflect light evenly.
  • Dryness due to regular use of heat tools.
  • Mineral or product buildup. This can be remedied with a "clarifying shampoo" or a vinegar rinse. More information on clarifying can be found here.

Hope this helps you!

Hugs,

Anais

Shine products are awesome! Everyone should use them.....I use got2b Dazzling Shine Spray. For the volume vs cost.....it's extremely cost effective.

Thanks for the advice It probably is just an over use of straighteners! I'll try out a different conditioner, and look around for some of that Got2b Dazzling shine spray

Thanks again!

I thought my hair was getting less shiny lately, but a few days ago I used a shampoo and conditioner that I hadn't used in a while, and my hair was shiny again.  So maybe try a new shampoo, or one you haven't used in a while, and see if that helps?
