I know I have to get my hair longer than it is now.
But kindof haircut do I need? Is there a particular name for that hairstyle? (I really don't want to show them the picture, but I have trouble describing hairstyles to hairdressers).

Why not? The best thing really WOULD be to show them the picture.

Oh! I get it. TheenD is a guy, but he has a picture of a really cool hairstyle and it happens to be a girl, so he doesn't want to bring in the picture to show the hairdresser.

I don't think you have to worry about the gender of the person in the photo-- I've heard of women who habitually pointed out men's styles in the style books, so you wouldn't be the first to go outside the box.  *shrugs*  If you're still really worried, maybe draw or ask someone else to draw the style for you on a male or faceless forn?

.........dude, that's not even considered a female hair style but there's no rule stating it's a guy hair style also.  You don't have to be embarassed.  Why do you care what your stylist think?  We're talking about hairstyles here, not what gender.  This is lame, you need to face the embarassment.  I doubt your stylist would even care that that's a girl.  I mean, why do you care when no one cares?  Just bring up some courage and walk in the salon and show the stylist the damn picture, get the cut and leave.  So simple.  Describing in words is probably the worst way to let your stylist know how to cut your hair.
