When you were a little girl, your mom or female family member braided your hair.

So what if your older and want your hair in braids; your just adding extra hair with your hair, like a weave.

Go for it!
If anyone bothers you, ask them why do they wear weaves!

>>>>>>>Sorry, but I have a real problem with white people taking on black hairstyles. Black people had been plaiting their hair for centuries then along comes Bo Derek with canerow in 10 and suddenly it`s cool to have plaits in. The same with make up and a host of other things. White people hijack the best of a non white culture and take it as their own, giving no credit back to the original culture.
What really annoys me is the comments white people come out with about black hair and how sticky it is or by asking do you use Vaseline in your hair. Black hair is really difficult to deal with, these comments make my blood boil, and as for the grief with dreadlocks, not allowed to wear them to school and such, you trying living with black hair for a month and tell me how you want to style it. You don`t try to understand you just make assumptions, not very fair is it?
I think you shoud stick to your wash and go hair. <<<<<<<

like G, i totally agree. but not only that, most white people look, no offence to african/jamaican ethnics, but they look really trampy with it, like they`re really tryinna look hard and cool like a gangsta or somert. I am mixed race, and look very white; yes i admire african/jamaican braided hair, but i wouldnt have it because it wouldnt suit me. it just does not suit white/fair skinned people. unless you are dark skinned, it looks well trampy, like a greebo.
you should, afterall, get a hairstyle that suits you, tat goes with your face shape; n fuk all d people that say "its not a black thing, anyone can have it , its your hair you can do what you want with it", coz ur just stupid.

and another thing, i cried when i say the oscars and heard Halle berries speach....
im not of african/jamaican ethnic, (im mixed race, half english half kurdish) but it really moved me!

Well I`m white and I want braids and ALOT of the white girls in school do braids and cornrows and alot of black hairstyles and In my opinion just put the braids in. Who cares is someone doesn;t like it? Im sure there are people out there who don`t like your hair as it is right now but thats no reason to like go and get it all chopped off. I mean people just have to understand there are gonna be alot of people out there who dont like what you do or how you look but hjonestly, what are they going to do about it? I mean if u put ur hair in braids the worst anyones gonna do is call you some stupid name then move on. And also there will be people out there who will like it... U know some whites will like it some wont, some blacks will like it, some wont. I mean pigtales and french braids arent "Black" hairstyles... I guess they`re "white" ones but black people wear them... And so what Im trying to say is hair really doesnt matter... The black kids at school dont wear their hair in braids but they all compliment the white girls who do so it`s really no big deal. I`d get them no matter how many people insult me. I mean what are they gonna do about it rip my hair out because I wear braids?

i think you should because if you want to their is nothing to hold you back. if black people can relax their hair and not be called "white wannabes" then white people should be able to braid their hair and not be called "black wannabes".

I must say that as a black female I find no problem with a white person getting their hair in braids as long as it is done right. I would have a problem if they looked crazy just like I would have a problem if a black girl had some crazy briads in her hair I think that if you look good do your thang do you!

i am not being racist or nothing but i think that white people look strange with cornrows in but it depends on who does it and what kind of hair you have . i am mixed race (black, white) and i used to have straight but thick hair but now it is frizzy, curly and thick and i have to have it pressed or cornrowed but i can leave it out in a bobble because it isnt like a real black persons hair

Who cares about white people with braid. If you dont like it dont look at it. Everyone has there own style. I dont see why you have to post something like this, to try and get something going.

OMG! Black hair, white hair, tomato tomato...blah blah same thing! I have known several white people who went to mexico and got their braided-smoe cornrows some just small beads w/ braids....w/e anyway, I also know black people who have braids in their hair as well. These people aren't being "black" or "white" they are being themselves. isn't that all that matters? I was taught that people are people no matter what they look like or act like...if someone wants braids go for it....just wondering....if a black person were to have straight hair or unbraided hair would that mean they were "acting white"? NO! of course not! so why is it any different if a white person wants braids? I guess I just don't understand double standards in society and never will. God help me and bless me for it.

I think it's alright to get them done. I am white, getting micro's, any day now. If you've got the attitude to hold it down, go for it. My whole town is white, and ****, they all got something to say. Braids are braids. Everyone wears extensions or just french braids in all sorts of ways. When cornrows are actually mini french braids, you know that the whole world has been using them forever. Good luck, tell us how it goes.

Alright..

a) No one can be "white," "black," "yellow," or "red." It's just ridiculous stupidity. Use common sense, people.

b) We should all try out different things from different cultures. Why? Because it's called CELEBRATING THE HUMAN RACE'S DIVERSE CULTURAL ENVIRONMENTS. Notice; the HUMAN RACE. There is only one race..the human race. A European-American getting cornrows is perfectly fine..or anyone else of European origin. Anyone of any origin should celebrate other cultures, respect other cultures, and represent other cultures. We all have one thing in common: being God's children. Now stop being ignorant, immoral, ethnicist, and ridiculous.

Alright..that was utter and complete ridiculousness. Again, no one is white. No matter what kind of hair you have, have the style that you want.

Egyptians are African, by the way..

Personally, I think alot of people have gotten really immature with this thread. The girl asked a question. You all start in with race and so on and so on. If she wants to do it then GO FOR IT. There was no need for anyone to get offended and start at each others throats. This is a hair forum....we are supposed to HELP EACH OTHER!

Honestly, on most caucasion girls that I see with braids...I don't like it. But there are some caucasion girls in my college that I have seen totally pull it off...and they looked really pretty. Its all in who you are and your personality/looks.

There I edited "white girl" to caucasion. Hope no offense was taken!

Don't you see that your being just as immature as the rest? I'm not judging people by there color. I'm sorry...did you want me to say caucasion? Fine...if that is more appropriate then I will say that. But I think alot of people would get offended if I went around saying that african american girl as opposed to "black girl" because they would think I was being a smart ass. I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

....Oh and another thing... I AM WHITE....as if I was trying to offend people of my race!

This topic is really stupid. Who cares it's her hair. She's the one who has to live with it. If you don't like to see different people adopting other's culture, ignore it.

If you are approached for experimenting elements of another's culture, ignore them, they have issues.

Some people look good with braids some don't, black and white. Let that person decide for theirself.

I think it was a very unecessary question for her to ask. It would be in her best interest to try to make independent decisions on how she wants the world to see her as a person.
