will all this coloring hurt my hair?

I had my hair colored blonde about 2 months ago in a shop and did not like the end result. The stylist applied a toner of a deposit only color (with low peroxide)a few weeks ago to tone it down. It is starting to fade out. She suggested doing corrective color if I want my natural medium blonde back and says she will need to put a filler on which will be a permanent color of strawberry blonde, then another permannet color on top of that to get the end result. My hair is still healthy, hardly any split ends that I can see. I do see where a few strands must have had split ends that split and broke off. My question is, will all this coloring hurt my hair? Should it be spaced out? I can live with it for a while. When should I procede with the correction? What can I do until then to get my hair in good shape?

You could get foils done with your natural color in a heavy weave as long as you like some hilights.then, you could tone everything down which wouldn't hurt the hair.

My hair is naturally medium blonde, when you look at the roots, it looks very dark as well as it does in pictures, and very blah, but the problem is when you look at the entire head of hair in it's virgin, no color state, the ends are always lighter. I started with high lights, but they kept going blonder and blonder and soon highights became an all over color. I would not mind being dark blonde, if the color was the same all over and not look so blah, then maybe a few highlights around the face, do you have any suggestions?

What is "deposit only" color as opposed to "permanent color"? Does this mean something like (for the home colorist) Clairol's Natural instincts ..i.e., something that says it washes out in 24 shampoos or something? I never have been clear about what you guys mean by that term....Laura

The deposit only color is usually 3% volume versus a minimum of 10 volume for 'depositing with no lift' of the permanent color. A color that is availible at many beauty supply stores and works pretty well is L'oreal's 'Aurelle' line. william

I too get hilites. When my hair was so blonde, I got a reverse with a semi perm. color in my natural with a little gold in the formula and alternated with a bleach.The results were fantastic. Not only did I not have to fill my hair, but I kept getting it done until I had a more natural hilited look. And yes, there was no damage at all. Plus, toning the whole thig kept it from looking too black/white. When I also used the cafe au lait shampoo it helped with any brassiness. My natural haircolor is a lt.brown borderline dk.blonde.

It doesn't work like a color, not as intense, but it helps until your next coloring. Now, if the hilighting route isn't what you want, what I mentioned in one of my responses,you would have to fill the entire head leaving out a few blonde pieces around the face, then color with your natural. This can be done with a semi perm color. Then just touch up the pieces arond the face, making sure mot to overlap the lightener or else there coud be damage. Once you have achieved what you wanted, then you can play with the color. You can add a warmer blonde so the color doesn't look mousy.
