Ok so I have long brown hair that is pretty straight and I am thinking about cutting it short. Actually I`ve been wanting to cut it short for a long time but my mom said I couldn`t until I start high school and I`ll start high school next year. I haven`t had short hair since I was like 4 and everyone says I shouldn`t cut it all off at once but medium length hair seems like more of a hassle than long hair is so I don`t get the point. Everyone says that guys like long hair but some of the most popular girls in my school have short hair.

I want hair that is really easy to take care of and isn`t always getting in my face. I like to play sports. Can I get that without cutting it short? Has anyone else just cut their long hair short all at once? I was thinking I would get short bangs and cut the rest straight to about my chin. What do you think?

Dear Bronnie,

I am going to answer this from a guys perspective, because that is what I am. Just about all the guys I know, much prefer girls with longer hair to short hair. There is something very special about girls who have their hair long. it looks absolutely amazing and is so enjoyable to run your fingers through, etc. I bet those girls who are popular with short hair, would be twice as popular with their hair long, trust me, I have seen this many times.
You say you want something that is easy to take care of, well the absoute fact of the matter is that short hair takes just as much time and effort to look after and care for as long hair does. Another big advantage of long hair is if you don`t feel like doing much with it, you can just tie it back in a nice ponytail and it still looks great, can`t do that with short hair. Also, long hair is so versatile, and is great for sport, as you can tie it back or braid it.
Before you cut your hair off Ii would like to discuss it with you more, but that is completely up to you. You can contact me anytime you wish and I will reply ASAP. My email is johnrm@origin.net.au.
Best Wishes,
John

I think that you should definitely go for the chin length cut with short bangs. I love that hair length and style on girls. I am guy so not all guys like long hair. A girl with a beautiful bob and bangs lights my fire. I actually have a bob hairstyle that comes to just below my ears with bangs. It is easy to maintain with regular trims at the salon every 4 - 6 weeks. My hair is naturally very wavy so I have to blow it straight each morning but you should not have that problem. I say go for it and let us know what you think and how it turns out.
laura any pictures of the different cuts? I`d love to see them all.

HI, If you really want to cut it I say go for it!! I know this guy that buys hair to make extensions. The length limit is about 20". If you are willing to cut 20" or more of hair, contact him. His email is bks@ixpres.com and if ya wanna look at the pics on his website the URL is www.ixpres.com/hair. Thanks and remember Locks of love is a rip off. You deserve more for you hair. Thanx for listening, Sarah (ps. those of you who have donated to locks of love, don`t get mad, its just that they receive over 100 ponytails a day and only use maybe half, and this guy only receives 10 a week and uses it all. )

Hi, sorry forgot to mention that you must send a pic or a length that you are willing to cut before he can give you a price. Your hair must be pretty straight too. Thanx, Sarah

Bronnie, I think if people say you shouldn`t cut your hair they like it, and they want it to be attached on you. The hair is a part of your personality and you should know that some people love it long.

The girls you talked about can be attractive for different reasons. Maybe they are special beauties, or they have charisma or it is pleasant to be related to them. But I am sure that some guys around you would prefer yourself.

I personally don`t know how to play sport with long hair, but there exist women with long hair (tennis, motor sports, wrestling) who have long hair. The same is often true for circus performers, artists and dancers.

Thanks for everybodies ideas! I didn`t know if anyone would even reply! Someone asked how long my hair is. It is about half way down my back. I just measured and if I cut it to my chin I would cut off about 13 inches. I like the idea of donating it to someone that needs it.

So what I don`t like about my hair is that I always have to tie it up and stuff or it gets in the way. When I let it down everyone says it is really pretty and I should wear it down more but it gets into everything so I always have it braided or in a pony tail and stuff. If I wash it after sports it is still damp when I go to sleep if I don`t dry it. If I don`t braid it before I go to sleep it is a big mess in the morning and hard to untangle so I usually braid it. Sometimes it is still damp in the morning. I thought about keeping it long and just getting short bangs but I don`t think that would look good and it would still be a pain. I`m afraid if I cut it to a medium length or get layers that it will be harder to keep out of the way than it is long. Does that make sense? OK I`m rambling. Thanks!

Bronnie, I think you are tired with all of the effort to keep your hair long, unfortunately I can not give you a solution how to manage it much easier. Maybe the long hair support group on this board could help you. I you want it I could also give you adresses of long hair lover websites.

I think long hair should make the people happy who wear it. I am a man with 12 inches long hair now and I am happy that I have it, I would like it to have own very long hair, if society around me would like it or not and if I am out of time or not. Currently I need half an hour every day for hair care in the morning, and it makes pleasure. But without the long haired women I see every day I think I would lose interest in hair completely.

I am very athletic, and play a lot of sports, and I have found that bangs can be very annoying and get all sweaty and in the way. I ended up pinning them up for all of my games till they grew out. I think you should consider leaving it at a length where you can still tie it back if you need to cuz theres nothing worse than running around with hair flapping in your face. YOu can still go short, just not past your chin.

Thanks for your advice Arianna! Like I said I have had long hair pretty much forever so it helps to get your opinion. But I`m dissapointed that bangs were annoying because I was hoping they would help keep all this hair from getting in my face and not make it worse! Were your bangs long or short? Here is a picture of how I was hoping to get my hair cut and the bangs are pretty short so I was hoping that would work for me. Of course I would have to keep them trimmed short.

I really like this second picture too with the hair back behind the ears. I don`t know if my ears alone would keep the hair back like this or if I`d have to use barrettes. Thanks!

Hi guys! I`m glad you like the pictures. I`m excited because I like them too and I think that style would look good and it will be fun to have a different style and everything. I don`t know when I`ll be able to get my hair cut becuase my mom doesn`t really want me to cut my hair but I think it will be ok .....eventually. I`m going to try to get it cut maybe when school is out becuase I think it would be soooooooo great to have short hair for the summer. I`ll let ya know!

bronnie, i absolutely love that first style. I would though because that is almost how I have my hair cut. Mine is just a little shorter. I think that you will love it if you cut your hair in that style. Let us all know how it goes.

Hello bronnie

The styles u chosen are great. I think u should go for the first one, that`s a pretty good idea

So this brings up a couple of questions. I thought that both these pictures were the same person with her hair *cut* the same way but that in the first one she has her hair down and the second one she has it gelled back. I figured if i got my hair cut this way I could wear it BOTH ways. Am I dreaming?

And another thing I don`t get are face shapes. Like I said I thought this was the same person and in the first picture it says her face shape is triangular and in the second picture it says her face is oval. Does your face shape change depending on how you wear your hair?

I`m going to try create a link to the pictures to make it easier for anyone that is interested but I don`t know if it will work or not.

bronnie, I too think that this is the same girl and that if you have your hair cut like that you should be able to wear it both ways. I just like the way the first pictures looks better than the second but that is just my personal preference. As to why they say the face shapes are different I don`t know unless they can`t see her whole facial outline in the first picture as her hair is covering some of it. I say go for it! Let us know how it goes.

My goodness I didn`t expect to see this post come back up! i can`t believe it since i posted it in march!

I did cut my hair just before school started and I love having it different. Its not quite as short as the pictures and I have been letting the back grow but I have been keeping the bangs trimmed short. I actually like them about 1" above my eyebrows which I know some people hate but I like them that way. I think I will let it grow more until this summer when I will do another major chop. Haven`t decided exactly what i want but it is a long way off. Thanks for the comments!

Wow i can`t believe this post is still being discussed since I started like a year ago!

I did cut my hair and I like it. It was not quite as short as the pictures and I have let the back grow out a bit but I definitly like having the bangs short. I think they look best when they are about an inch above my eyebrows. i know some people don`t like short bangs but I like them. I`m going to let it grow longer in the back until this summer when I am definitly going to cut it shorter, i don`t know how yet but that is still a long ways away.

I`m sorry, but I must say something Sarah...

So you think Locks of Love: a legitimate non-profit organization is a rip off? And this guy, well he`s a saint (says you) because I suppose like the American Indians uses the complete "buffalo hide" and takes only what he needs from the land... What poppycock, it`s about cash.

You`ve either been duped or in collusion with this scammer. Otherwise would you like to explain the $450.00 he`s asking for this ponytail on Ebay? Mmmm?
