Still growing my [over 40 years old...okay over 50] hair long and it is just going fine, but the look of the reddish hair growing out with the brown and grey didn't look so good. I asked my hairdresser to bring my hair closer to my natural look (medium brown) so I could then grow the grey back into it...
He went a tad too dark. Okay, he went way way way too dark. Long hair didn't make me look older, but really dark hair does.
I don't want to redie it as it is bad enough I'm coloring my hair at all, and trying to grow it out. I'm off to go wash and wash and wash (this just happened a few hours ago..maybe there is hope).
My advise to myself and others in this situation is just sit with the three toned hair rather than dying it..or use a temporary or semi-permanent color first, until you are sure you have the right color.
This has been a very bad hair day and in order to stop from shaving my head, I am going to avoid mirrors for the next few months..
Not to dis your colourist. Most people do a swatch /strand test first to see the colour before doing the whole head. They just cut off a small chunk of hair where it won't show and try the colour on it.
Semi-permanent colour is supposed to wash out, eventually, maybe. Permanent colour doesn't. I dye my gray hair lighter, a sunny blonde. I wanted to try a semi-permanent copper colour, but I was advised because my hair was lightened that the colour might not eventually wash out. So I am stuck with your dilema. I suppose I would have to use a very light colour semi-permanent colour to get a light brown to grow out my roots.
well, washing out the permanent dye won't do much, the best is to hope for it to fade or attempt to re dye it. I'd suggest not ever going to that place with that hairdresser ever again though! On another note, grey hair is beautiful, and at the age of 20 I'm very glad I even have some. I even go to great measures as to not dye it when I'm dying my hair! Thank goodness for grey stress patches!!!
Don't avoid mirrors, Deeanne! (lol) You are giving yourself good advice. Hair need not be all one tone to look amazing. I don't think many long hair loving guys care a whit, so long as it remains long. Trust me on this one. Flaunt it! (lol) Bob
