"hard" hair that stabs face

I am an asian male that has "hard" hair that is really "big" (it looks like I have a lot of hair). I'm trying to grow out my hair and the tips of my fringe "stab" me in the face.

Is there anything I can do about this, or just learn to put up with it until it is longer?

Do any other asian people experience this?

It seems like most asian people have soft hair that doesn't itch their face at all, but when I turned 13 or 14, my hair changed and went from soft to "hard." When I cut it short it poofs out like a straight 'fro :(.
