burned hair with dryer

I was blow drying my hair and put the heat on high by mistake and didn't use the gadget that goes on end of dryer so I guess my hair was too near the heating element. Thank God I smelled burning and only a thin swatch of about 2"across was burned out. Could have been a whole brush full as I had it wrapped around a brush. Anyway, will hair that was literally burned out at the root grow back?? Brit
