baking soda/powder

ive heard alot of things on baking soda as a hair treatment, but could i use baking powder instead? the only reason im asking is bc thats what i have in my pantry but id obviously go out and buy baking soda if i needed to i just wanted to know if i could use baking powder instead of soda and what are the differences?
