Hi everyone!
My name is Rachel and I have just found this site. I am so excited to see everything here!
I live in the US in Wisconsin. I have been doing hair professionaly since 1999 and I am still loving it.  Color seems to be my favorite and I have to say I am very good at it.  My hair is Asymmetricial. It is cul up around the ear on one side and longer past my chin on the other. The top is sassy and spikey. I love to have fun with hair and give it loads of texture! I believe your hair should be a represantion of your personality.

Rachel I would truly like my hair to represent my personality I am 52, and thin on top thought this would put you in picture.

I have made a phone call to a salon previously visited and speaking to them, they assure me all the four lady stylist there are willing and comfortable to set men

Hey Happy Abi!
Seriousely I don't think you need to dress up as a woman to get your hair done.  Good for you for wanting to go and get a perm! If you feel that insecure about being the only male in the salon then maybe you could find another salon in your area that does all hair types. I guarantee they won't feel uncomfortable doing a mans hair.
Good Luck!!

Hey! Truthfully I don't  know anything about the laws in the U.K. , but here we have cross-dressers everywhere. I would assume if you were allowed to walk down the street in womens clothes and make-up, then the hair salon wont have any rules against it. If they do it's discrimination.  I think a hair salon should make you feel as comfortable as possible and help you explore different sides of yourself. So if that is how you feel when you are there then they are doing a good job.  Do they also do facials and make-up? Maybe you could ask them for some make-up tips?
Let me know how it goes!

Welcome Rachel!  Your hair sounds like it looks neat!

Hi happy abi!  It really sounds like you want to experiment with a new lifestyle.  Why don't you just call the salon and tell them you are a man who wears ladies clothes and ask how welcome the receptionist feels you would be at this salon.  You can call several, and go to the one you think was the most open and friendly.  If you make an appointment, they would be expecting you, and that should make sure you have a nice comfortable experience.  I agree with Rachel though, even if you went any random salon on the street, it would be wrong of them to discriminate against you.

Sorry about this long thread but need to tell you Susan W

Thanks for the reply 20/05 Susan W (Elite member I see) following your advise I made calls to a hand full of beauty salons and of which two seemed very willing to help set my hair whilst dressed as a lady I went and made appointment for the 23rd for a wash and set on rollers (perm rods to be exact), I walked into salon and said I had for appointment for a wash and set giving my name and appt time. I did not feel a bit nervous much to my amazement, not even when a lady called over smiling, we won

Yea!! I'm glad you had such a great time. That is how a salon experience is supposed to be.

That's wonderful!  I'm actually surprised they let you change clothes there, I thought you'd just have to arrive wearing those clothes, but the fact that they did shows how accommodating they are willing to be for you, and that is great!

Ya know, I'm happy for you!  We should all get to live out our dreams, (especially if they are just nice, happy dreams that don't hurt anyone)!
