Hair extension for me ? / 3 Pictures inside

Good evening fellow hair lovers :)

When I was young I use to have longer hair that went slightly below my ears. I'm trying to grow hair to that point again. Meanwhile I'm waiting, I thought about hair extension for men. I've never heard of them and Was wondering If someone in Virginia Beach is doing it or at all possible. I will include the length of my hair with a picture. i just took. I know there are a lot of very talented people on this board so I'm hoping for some answers :)

My most important question is "What kind of hair do I have" ?
(People talk about their hair as thick, straight etc.)

Here are some questions:

• Do I need to grow longer hair for the extensions.
• Will I be disappointed when removing hair extension, meaning that i need to cut it short to get to non bad hair again?
• I'm not willing to spend very high amounts of money for this so what do people recommend?
• What is the safest hear to buy and what method is best to use to get it on?
• Does it take long time to do it?
  
• Tell me the truth, will it look silly on this hair =)
• I'm a scuba diver (I dive almost every weekend in salt water) is that ok?
  
• Will straightener do something for my hair at this point (make it more attractive?)
  

As you can see I'm very new to this and recently started to really love my hair after no attention for many years. Thank you all in advance for you future answers to my questions.
