switching to short hair

I have braids, and I going to cut my hair and try to get waves. I have nice hair when it long, when I had short hair I used to use blue magic and sporting waves and it would also get straight. I used to get a hair cut with the #1. I was wondering what kind of hair cut shoud i get. My boy told me I should either get a 2" on the grain or a dark ceaser. He also recommended I use carrot cream and sporting waves. What do you think about the recommendations? And any suggestion?

well i got my cut he used the #1 but i have no real ingrain cuz i aint wsh my hair enuff before i cut it.so ima b brushin alot and tryin t get some waves. ima wolf fo a bit still.
