As I stated in my last post, my hair is long (for a guy), basically a home-done
chin-length bob (longer at present, I cut my own hair and have to be in a
good state to be able to do this) and I know I want it no shorter than that.
For the rest of my life in fact, because in my opinion, short hair looks ugly
with the shape of my face. Plus, I am not a slave to fashion; that stuff
should work for you not you for it, and I don't care if fashion dictates or has
recently dictated that men should crop their hair. Nonconformist that I am, I
may even be helping fight against the pointlest standards!

Anyway, are y'all attatched to YOUR long hair, and think you may want to
keep it forever (or at least until yer getting old and grey whatever) or do you
see it as just the look of the moment?

And theoretic question, important for my sociological research: suppose you were
going with your long hair for a regular trim. The hairdresser suggests it's time
for a bigger cut. How quick would you be to say okay? Maybe the long hair board
is not the best for this question, as it may draw long hair lovers more easily than the
general board! Let's hear y'all, I'm in a good mood tonight despite the weather!

Lots of people have looked, but no one's replied.

So here goes - I'm very attached to my hair.
I will more than likely NEVER cut my hair again in any quantifiable measure. Right now I do trims of 1cm or less, and snipping off the occasional split.

Long hair as a "look of the moment"? Considering the patience it takes to actually grow and maintain long hair - several "looks of the moment" come and go while you're growing out - so no, long hair, by it's very definition, can't be a "look of the moment".
This is not to say extensions can't be a look of the moment, however.

If - IF - hypothetically I were to be sitting in a salon chair and the hair dresser suggested it was time for a bigger cut. Hmmmm... Funny, that's not what my watch says, and didn't I tell you I was here for my regular miniscule trim? Actually, I'd probably be asking to speak to a manager, and telling her that I was no longer a patron of her salon.

Well Duke - 5 days later, here's an answer for you. How's the weather?

I'm very attached to my hair... ;)

My hair has been at least waist length for 9 years, and short hair is a vague memory for me. All I remember was wishing it were longer so I could do more interesting things with it. I can't imagine what life would be like without my hair.

So Duke - are you attached to your hair?

Evidently people are looking, but no one's answering. NicoleZ and I are definitely attached for the long term though.

Ah well. I guess some threads die no matter what you do.

I am very attached to wearing long hair. I think it's feminine and sexy, and it's always been kind of my "trademark".

I once thought that after 30 I'd have to start wearing it shorter--silly me. I am 36 and not planning on changing anytime soon.

I have a love hate relation ship with my hair.....most days I absolutley adore it and am so glad to have it.....then some days I crave a change. Like today. Today i wish I could have a pixie like Ashley Judd's and feel the nape of my neck and be able to wash it after the gym and just leave it alone.
But most day I LOVE my hair and wear it around me like a security blanket.

Yes, indeed.
I am attached to all 90,000 or so strands and feel each one like a limb.

Not cutting any hair ever again, no way, no how, never.

As it gets longer I feel more and more like a tree with branches spreading out all over the earth, like a network of external nerves and arteries growing all around me, like channels of radiance through which energy passes through my head outward into the Universe and though which I pull spiritual energy into myself.
My hair breathes it's own breath.

Reductionist science says hair is dead.

I'm attatched with:

A short stick
2 elastic bands
A bottles worth of super glue
3 very powerful magnets
Some old sticky jam covered cheese
And a safety pin, just to be sure.

I am VERY attached to my hair.
I had my hair up in a tight updo and my grandma's neighbor came running out and said, "OH NO!!! You didn't cut your hair!!"
And my grandma replied before I could open my mouth,
"She would cut off her hands before she would cut off her hair, what's wrong with you???"
And she' s right!!

I would never cut my hair. It's a part of me. My hair is currently a little past mid-back legnth. I remember when I had short hair and I was just starting to grow it long, everyone I knew was telling me what a pain taking care of long hair would be. They were wrong! I love taking care of my hair. Brushing, shampooing, braiding... I love it all. Since I was about five, I have wanted hair to my ankles. That hasn't changed. Someday, it will be that long. I'm going to love taking care of it!
I know it's not common for a man to have long hair, and outside of reniassance faires, I've never seen a man with hair to his ankles. I guess I'll be a bit of an oddity. Should be fun!

My long hair means very, very much to me. My hair is waist length and I'm very attched to my long hair. I started to grow my hair quite late but I can't imagine anymore to have shorter hair. Long hair is feminine and makes me feel young. I take time for my hair and love to comb it daily several times quite long. I vary the ways I wear my hair. Favorite is long and loose but I also like braids, ponytails and buns. My long hair is me!

Probably a lot more attached than is healthy! I cut my hair short a few years ago, and everything just felt wrong about it. I missed not being able to catch a whiff of freshly washed hair if I shook my head and the hair ran past my nose. I missed the feeling of "silk" running down my neck and back. I missed not using all the wonderful combs, barrettes, sticks, and other hair accessories. I missed ponytails! I looked perfectly fine in short hair, but I didn't feel fine. I don't have to have super long hair, but I need it a few inches below my shoulders. Without it, I'm just not me!

Oh, I'm especially looking forward to long hair when mine turns completely grey! One of my professors has stunningly beautiful waist-length silver hair that she wears loose. I'd been debating for the longest time whether I should cut my hair. I teach high-school English and I was afraid I'd slide into total frumpiness. I mean, I already have the practical shoes, long skirts and multiple cats.

I am very attached to my long hair I  love it.  I am aiming for elbow length possibly waist length but not sure yet.  I would also have to say that it is my trade mark as well.  I like looking at other's hair and thinking how mine will look similar when it gets to that length.  It was much longer when I was younger although I had bleached it blond and it was damaged so cut it quite short.  Now I am almost to that point again but it looks much healthier and I will grow it much longer.  I don't figure I will ever go short again.  I am almost obsessed with long hair I guess I just love it,  don't know why I just do.

Hi Hi:

I love my long hair. As one of the other girl's posted.  I am very attached to wearing long hair. I think it's feminine and sexy, and it's always been kind of my "trademark".   I totally agree with her.  I love the feeling of my hair falling and resting on my shoulders.

Glad to see someone's revived this thread!
I am SO attached to my hair. Well my hair's attached to me, actually, but who's being politically correct?

I love my long hair and would hate to have to cut it.  I want to get my hair past my waist.  If my hair dresser suggested I cut my hair, I'd tell her that if she ever cuts my hair shorter then I request she'll be short a customer.  I'm very insecure about my body, but my hair is the one part of me that I am proud of.  I always try to display it nicely and show it off every chance I get.

When I used to audition for plays in college, we had to sign a contract that included being willing to make certain changes to your physical appearance.  I would always put a note at the bottom that said "will not cut hair."  I don't know if it made any difference in my being cast or not, but I knew I was safe, just in case.  (Like they couldn't just get me a short wig?)

Good question, Leia1979. By the way, at 13, I was a standby in two scenes of the episode Reunion of "Kung Fu: the Legend Continues". One of the scenes happened in a shaolin temple. I was just a martial arts student and wore jeans and a plaid shirt, but there were a bunch of guys being filmed that day who represented monks or priests. This is interesting: most of the guys had their hair shaved CLEAN OFF (including a fellow who had gone in with a beard, gone too), but the two main characters (Kwai Chang Caine and his son Peter) had their hair covered by skullcaps that take several hours to put on. Now take into account that David Carradine, who played Caine, had long hair, and that these skullcaps would have to be put on EVERY EPISODE they had flashbacks to the time when Caine was in the temple. Which, I think, was in many if not most/all episodes. So if the studio spent all that time and trouble on getting skullcaps to mask the two main actors' hair (and while I may be wrong, I'd say KFTLC wasn't the highest budget production), I wonder why so many highly paid actors in big budget movies allow makeup to "wreck" their hair instead of just giving them a wig. A minor example: Colin Farrell having his hair bleached in Alexander the Great. Less minor examples: Mandy Moore going from very long to short hair in How to Deal. Catherine Zeta Jones did reportedly have a bob wig cover her long hair in Chicago, but this seems to be almost an exception to a rule.

Admittedly sometimes it might be hard to get a wig for this purpose, for example, when Demi Moore takes clippers to her hair in G. I. Jane and gives herself a buzz cut. I don't know if you could make a buzz cut wig, I. E. the base being like a scalp and the hairs all being stubble. I must admit, however, Demi is a rare lady, in my opinion, who looks good with a buzz cut!

Well, the celebrities can just spend the big bucks to wear extentions until their hair grows out, or they thrive on the publicity of doing crazy things to their hair.

As far as being attached to my own hair...sometimes my friends will pretend threaten me with scissors just to see my reaction. They can't believe I've spent three years growing my hair from a chin-length cut. My hair is the one thing that always makes me feel beautiful, and I'll keep it long for as long as I can.

I'm also attached to my long hair, although I must admit that there are many times where I think of getting my scissors and cutting it short.

oh my god... SO attached to my hair.  i've had long hair my whole life, with the exception of about 4 years ago when i cut it chin-length twice.  that was fun and all, but like a lot of other people said, i'm just not me without my long hair.  luckily my hairdresser is a family friend who's been cutting my hair since i first had hair, and so she knows not to even mention shorter hair unless i bring it up first.  she even takes special care to cut off as little as possible when i go for a trim.  but man, if i ever went to someone who suggested a shorter look, i think i'd probably walk out of the salon.

Sarondie, is that you in the avatar? Your hair is gorgeous. You can keep it long for the rest of your life!

I have to ask, did you have the chin-length hair just once (how long was it before) or did you have it shorter for awhile? How did you decide to grow it? Did you have any trims while growing it out and if so, how often?

I didn't used to be attached to my hair, but now that I had to deal with an ear length bob in 2003, I'm quite attached to it.  I didn't know what I had till I chopped it off!  Won't be doing that again, ever.  I avoid salons to avoid that whole situation where they want to cut off too much.
