wondering

Hi to anyone out there. Lately, I seen lots of Africian-Ameriacn women that have braids in their hair that's different from typical braids... these braids start off as normal, but only go a third of the way and the rest of the hair is straight. Could someone tell me what these so-called braids are called and how they are done? Thanks so much, Victoria
