With the economy so iffy these days a great way to save on food is to freeze things.  If you have a larger freezer it can be a big money saves.  You can stock it with sale items you purchase in bulk and save a bundle.

The key is to know how long things will keep in a freezer and to be sure to mark the date of purchase on all items to avoid eating something past its prime.

Listed below are the general time lines for storing food items in a freezer:

Bread - Up to 1 year
Ground meat - 3-4 months (when bought fresh)
Beef steaks - 6-12 months
Fish - 2-6 months
Whole poultry - 1 year
Lunch meats - 1-2 months
Fresh veggies - Up to 1 year
Fresh fruit - Up to 1 year

Another important tip is to make sure that everything is well wrapped to avoid freezer burn.  Also, isolate foods with a strong aroma such as fish from other foods.

I agree freezing things can be a great way to preserve foods you want to prepare at a later date. It also saves a lot of time on those busy evenings. You can make entire meals before hand and freeze them, that way all you have to do is heat them up when you do not have time to make something. It also helps a lot of families cut down on trips to fast food places which is much healthier.
