i dont think you need to straighten it i think just the curls need to be more defined and scrunched up closer to the scalp. Why dont  you try this after shampooing and conditioning by the way what are u using? Matrix curl life shampoo and conditioner would be agood choice, while you use conditioner be sure to comb your hair, do not comb it anymore after this point. follow the  directions below instead. After shower:

while the hair is still wet apply if thin apply-Matrix Curl Life Body Shaping Foam

after applying this to your hair scrunch the hair with your hands then let it air dry and apply Matrix Curl Life Spiraling Spray Gel

hope this helps.
let me know!

sounds like your hair is super dry. use mousturizing EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!! and try not to shampoo more than 2 a week. Also try using conditioner every day and mixing gel and a little it of conditioner to srunch on your hair when you leave the shower and alawys rinse with the coldest water you can stand.

well no matrix the alternative is bascially finding a product made for curly hair shampoo and conditioner, then applying some sort of mousse or gel to it while wet scrunching it and letting it air dry then spraying some sort of spray gel into it. So just look for products that can accodmodate to this.

scrunching is when you take the hair in your hand and squeeze it closer to the scalp so that the hair becomes more defined and not so frizzy. You would scrunch the hair all over so that it is pushing closer to the scalp.

shampoo-Aussie Moist Shampoo
Conditioner- Aussie Moist Conditioner

while wet spray on -Aussie Hair Insurance Leave in Conditioner
while wet apply-Aussie Tizz No Frizz Gel
scrunch and let air dry

i hope you at least have aussie.:)http://aussie.com/
