hair that have wispy ends

I'm losing a lot of hair and i noticed that there's an increasing percentage of short hairs among my head of long hair. These hairs have wispy ends -- the diameter of the hair shaft just decreases as it grows. Some are too fine that they even couldn't grow at all. The problem is getting alarming, I wonder is this a sign of male pattern baldness? Any thoughts?
