So your saying black churches should be more involved in the community right? I have not attended church in over 7 years. The reason is I got tired of seein "saved" people act a fool all through the week, and then one day dress up and talk about people. I figured if these people were what you called saved I didn

I totally agree with the final four paragraphs of this article.  I think it would benefit us greatly to have more political ties and standing.  I think it would be helpful to add politcal and social awareness to the pulpit messages so that the congregations can be up to speed on what is really going on outside of the church doors.  We need to work hand in hand with the lawmaking body to see iniatives pushed for the less fortunate and disenfranchised.  We could definitely benefit from more collaboration with other churches and denominations as well. I know there is a separation of church and state in America-- but as the article states-- the Catholic church has found ways to work through the political maelstrom and we can too.
We need an expanded definition of black theological education  . . .First, the academic and theological preparation of black church leadership must include a thorough understanding of the impact of public policy on the daily lives of their communities. They need to understand the necessity of careful study and advocacy to impact social policy outcomes. One helpful educational strategy is the use of case studies focused on the success experienced by research organizations, acting in collaboration with political activists and strategists, to effect extensive change in a raft of social policies.
I totally agree!
