love your asian hair

Hey folks

Just wondering,... is there anybody out there who loves their Asian hair as much as I do? I love its color, its thickness, its weight, every last one of its qualities. I am perfectly satisfied with the coarseness of each strand and its response to moisture and conditioning. The color is a perfect shade of a natural dark brown.

Most Asians I know tend to wish their hair was somehow different. Well, for the rest of you, come out of the woodwork!

Does it bother you when you see people not care for their hair? I spent a weekend with a lady friend who flat-ironed and curled twice a day. It fried her hair into mounds of splits, but she didn't seem to mind it at all. Acquired taste, I suppose.

I don't have "Asian" hair (obviously) but I greatly admire the beauty (as you've described so well, Anais) of it, especially when worn long.

I think the "grass is greener on the other side of the fence" syndrome may apply. I can't help but think that it has more to do with wanting to "stand out" from the "crowd" than with any inherent dislike of their hair's natural qualities.

You know Dave, that sounds really reasonable. Many Asians don't like the way they "can't do anything interesting" with their hair the way non-Asians can.

After years of despising it's flat texture and color.

I now know, after so much experimenting and observation, that I love how strong and thick it is. How with the right tools, I really can do things with it.

I also thought my hair was eternally black. But I regret coloring it after see that it was really a hidden dark brown.

The farther east you go in the world, the coaser hair is. It wouldn't have survived all the torture I put on it if it wasn't so.

Sounds like you're enjoying your dark brown.. a similar thing happened to me. After several months of weekly clarifying with apple cider vinegar, I had reddish auburn highlights surface.. especially in the sun. My hair was a natural near-black, but that vinegar really made a difference... just a thought.

Isn't it great to have heavy-duty hair? I can't imagine having fine fragile strands, like European hair. It's sooooo beautiful, but it's such a lot of TLC.

Strange how the grass is always greener on the other side. I'm not trying to make others like something they don't, but instead am trying to connect with others who feel the same way I do. Yes, I have frizz, yes, my hair doesn't dry evenly, yes it's thick and has a lot of volume, yes it's curl-resistant.. but I make peace with it. All of it. And yes, people tell me I'm weird.

Your hair will always be yours no matter what, so I do hope that someday you will find something that works for your/our hair type.

you guys should read my post of the general hair talk. i think it is called "my hair story" or something. You will read that I have been battling with hair since I was 9 years old. But now i know i cant really fight my hair. I can improve it a little but to change it completely, I don't have the cash to do so
Maybe i should post my recent pic in my icons. Its no longer straight or black now.

same here... but my hair is dark brownish and has lighter hilights that r usually not noticable (and it had a very noticable reddish tint last year...) buuut i usually dont like it when ppl w/ asian hair color it cuz it turns out very unnatural

I'm asian and I absolutely LOVE my hair. I can make it curly or straight. It's thick but I would take that any day over having thin hair. It's frizzy, but hey, that's what styling products are for.

I love my asian hair. I live in a very rural part of the US, and there are very few Asians around here, and those that I see never care for their hair.

I never blowdry my hair unless I'm in a rush, and I just straighten it to even out a few waves and frizzes when it finishes air drying.

I have a beautiful (if I do say so myself) texture to my hair. My hair is thick, each strand is equal to at least 4 strands of many other's people's hairs. It's very cooperative with so much stuff.

My asian hair dyes pretty easily. The only complaint I have is that I recently dyed (recently meaning back in early August) my hair with purple, and it didn't show up unless I was in the sun. So I bought a bottle of the new line of red hair dye by L'Oreal, and it was beautiful. Too bad that the dye washes out each time I shampoo (I do use a color-safe shampoo). Reds are just so hard to stick in my hair. Right now, I have a red-brown-purple color, but it's mostly a brown shade, so I'm hoping to dye it again sometime in the next few months.

Lovely to meet you, ::flowers:: and it's always nice to find other people (especially Asians) who love their hair too. I think our hair type fits our lifestyles and is very much like ourselves: on the go, heavy-duty, can take a lot of blows from life's wear and tear, and doesn't want to be something that it isn't! That's the Asian spirit, in my opinion.

did you use the loreal color experte one? i used the red kind of it and i wanted to put purple but now i kind of miss my black hair.
i have frizzy hair and sometimes i hate it because im high maintence on appearanace but now i realize how many ppl want asian hair hehe

I used Herbal Essence for the first time I dyed it purple, and then I used the Power Reds by Loreal in the Ruby Rush, I think for the second time. =)

I miss my black hair too, but I'm waiting until April to dye it back to black.

thanks to my mixed heritage, Korean and White, my hair turned out to be a slightly frizzier version of my mom's. my hair is also wavy almost to the point of having a really loose curl (it scrunches very nicely). about 4 years ago, i had it chemically straightened in korea (you know, that japanese treatment you saw on the news as only being offered in new york and l.a. and costing 300 bucks) for about 30 bucks (US), and it looked awesome. sadly, i'm petrified to have my hair straightened in a salon in my tiny town, so i've resorted to frying my hair when i wanna wear it straight... ::sniff:: my hair weeps and curses my name....

but yes, i love the advantage of having tons and tons of long hair :D
