dreads with extensions.

i am looking to get dreads but my hair isn't even an inch yet. Are extensions platted to short hair easy to do ? And how expensive would this be ?I was thinking plat the short short hair and eventually they will grow into real dreads with the extensions eventually being cut out. Is this ok ?
